"These veteran narrators keep the plot moving and the narration fresh" — AudioFile Magazine

This program is read by Audie Award-winning narrators Michael Kramer and Kate Reading, and includes a bonus interview with the author.

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

When a vicious band of half-men, half beasts invade the Two Rivers seeking their master’s enemy, Moiraine persuades Rand al’Thor and his friends to leave their home and enter a larger unimaginable world filled with dangers waiting in the shadows and in the light.

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters. The last six books in series were all instant #1 New York Times bestsellers, and The Eye of the World was named one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

After having given up on the Sword of Truth series after book 6 due to varies reasons (see review on Book 5), I decided to try the Wheel of Time. And I must say I've not been disappointed. Currently on book 8, I decided to review Book 1 since I figure most people will start here.

One thing that is extremely well done is the characters and their development. They continue to change and grow while staying true to the basic character traits that are established early on. The characters aren't suddenly changed from one book to the next, leaving the reader wondering what happened nor do they stagnate. The story and its details seem well thought out and planned, not made up by the writer on a whim.

Another thing that usually really bothers me is repetition of the story. I always assume people start from book one... and getting the back story told over and over and over again, frustrates me. That is not to say that there is no repetition in this series, but it is handled in a very clever way, by retelling the same situation (usually whatever happened at or near the end of the previous book) from a different angle, adding more information not just retelling what the reader already knows. It doesn't feel forced and there's no urge to skip the first hour of the story to get to the actual plot.

And on a side note... the readers of this book are excellent. Especially since some of the characters have very similar names, the voice acting of the readers really helps to keep them apart.

I would definitely recommend this series, even though it's long, as of Book 8, it still has enough new plot, character development and interesting new characters to make me want to keep 'reading'

this series is well worth it

Spannende Fantasy

When one sees an author writing as many books as Robert Jordan did, one quickly jumps to the conclusion that this must be yet another fantasy cheap shot. In case of Mr Jordan, you couldn't be farther from the truth. This is true classic for a reason. And one that has aged very well, the story could easily still be published exactly the same way. Maybe without the cheesy covers, but hey...

The story not being cheesy is one of the things, I like best about the wheel of time so far. You got strong female roles. You got little boys thrown into adventure, who neither take that role with naive willingness nor with clumsy feet. You got characters who possess absolute power, who could potentially break the world, but who still struggle in a way that manages to keep you interested in the story.

One thing has to pointed out, because many many authors fail to master it. This story evolves into a grand tale from many POVs. In most novels, this is very annoying, because not all characters and perspectives are equally interesting. Mr Jordan is among Mr King and and Mr Sanderson one of the few authors, who pulls that off perfectly, that can suck you into the next POV with just a few sentences. Beautiful.

Don't get confused by the quantity: this is high quality Fantasy

Die Aufnahme ist etwas älter und bedarf (zumindest digitaler Aufarbeitung.

The audioquality is not the best and could be digitaly enhanced, but Michael Kramer makes up for that.

Audio quality is like it has been 20 years ago

it was very exciting (usually I listen to Audible to fall asleep and I had to stop it.. as I was to nervous listening what would happen next).

for a D&D Gamer or 'Lord of the rings' fan -> great.

good - just a little too long
