I always wanted a good Dragon rider book after I quit Eragon because I don't like the writing style and message of the story. Battlemage made me believe in good Dragon fantasy again.
This book took a lot of parts of fantasy writing that I love and the first two thirds of the book made me think that I had a new favorite series at hand.
Unfortunately for me that changed after 12 hours into the story when the author decided to introduce a split pov between our main character and the supporting character. I just can't stand when a story is split in multiple plotlines (which in this book are quite minor but still there after the 12 hours) it just pulls me out of the story and I almost quit the book then and there.
The worst part is that this split happened when the book sets up a really emotional development and completely brought me out of it.

For everyone who is ok with minor multiple pov switches I recommend listening to this book the story is still really good.
For me I don't think I will continue the series as I fear that, like every other epic fantasy that I quit because of it the multiple plotlines, they get more and more introduced as the story goes on so I probably won't risk getting frustrated by it.

it is rather cliche Fantasy, but that was what I wanted and expected. it has magic and dragons and as a professional chef I loved that the main character is a a chef's son and starting as his apprentice.
interesting magic system and have I mentioned it got dragons!

I'm a big fan of dragon related fantasy books and stumbled upon this book by accident. This book is everything i love about the dragonrider trope. And yes, Ascension is quite tropey and has a whole lot cliches in it. But in a good way.

Its just a really fun story with absolutely adorable characters. The bond between the main character Holt and his dragon is especially satisfying and reminds me a lot of the "how to train your dragon" movies. I recommend this to everyone who loves dragon books :)

The voice of Peter Kenny brings the characters to life in a way i didnt know was possible. I've never heard anyone make a better dragon voice than he did for this book. Absolute perfection!

An Amazing Book read to you by an Amazing Voice

Ascendant follows a lot of the classic dragon tropes:
- bonding to humans,
- mental communication,
- magic linked to the dragon type
to name a few.

Yet the story feels fresh.
It combines some of my favourite elements from Eragon and Pern with a zombie apocalypse.
So give it a shot!

Ascendant caught my eye for a simple reason: I've never seen a story about a blind dragon before! However, what I found was a story about much more than just the struggle of being different! Sometimes all it takes to change the world is a kid with more compassion than sense!

An epic tale of dragons!

The idea and the way how the story developed isn’t new, but the implementation is quite nice and the chapters are all interesting. I’d recommend to give it a try, before buying all 3 books, but who knows, maybe you’ll become an ultimate fan (:

For a mere YA-Fantasy novel, the world building and how it reacts and interacts with the characters is absolute top tier. Every decision brings forth a reaction; be it political, fantastical, warfare or whatever else. The world does not revolve around our characters and this is what makes this book so special.

Tolle Geschichte, fantastischer Sprecher. Ich habe das Buch von Anfang bis Ende genossen und werde sogleich den zweiten Teil herunterladen! Sehr empfehlenswert!
