Great story with great characters

At first I thought this will be your typical "edge lord" overpowered hero story, but I was pleasantly surprised that each character has depth and development. also the world and leveling system is very interesting. The only negative points are the pronunciation of the sword "Kagehime" and of course the constant and long reading of stats that is pretty much always an issue with the litrpg genre.

Good start

The story has two main characters but in this book we follow mostly one of them. The one on the Cover...
I guess the next one will focus more on the other guy, don't know though, haven't read it yet.
The flashbacks were anoying, not because they were done badly but because the backstory is pretty much explained from the beginning and the characters are constantly talking/thinking about what happened. But i guess they are somewhat important to lay the foundation of the protagonists story. Just feels like the flashbacks were to many and to long. Could just be me being impatient.
But flashbacks aside the story is good and i'm looking foward to the next.
If you are completly unfamiliar with litrpgs and/or cultivation storys maybe don't start with this. I could see that beeing frustrating.

The book is awesome

The book is awesome, I liked 99% of it, so I'll just list the 2 things I didn't like.
1. There isn't much emphasis on the little things, small details, or side characters that, if done right, can make a world that much more real and immersive.
2. Sadly, I wasn't able to relate to Zach at all, which lead to me feeling a bit annoyed whenever the focus was on Zach instead of Ryun. (The second book is even worse in this regard, it's mostly about Zach)

looking forward to the next parts

The narrator is superb and I like how the story of Zach and Ryun ist foreshadowing an epic storyline to come.

Good switches between timelines, good written Story, i just really hate it when you get a charackter sheet for 2-3 minutes for a Little Addition or a little Change regularly

A favorite

Amazing story, great characters, and a good performance on top. I already read this book a while ago, but now came back to listen to it instead, and I'm going to buy the next one in a few seconds.
I really like that the characters in this story tend to have differing morals from what would be seen as normal; we have Zack, who clings to our version, but also people who go for interpretations like might makes right, or law above all, and the MC's own refusal to lie or break his word. The cast is very diverse in general, giving a good look at things from several perspectives, without bogging down the flow with too much repetition. The world of the story feels well-developed from what we've seen so far, and leaves me very eager to find out more.

One of the better specimen of this genre

I'm giving this book five stars not because it could not have been better or because there are no better books. I think it deserves praise because it's well written, it is not a self therapy of the hero, even though that topic is part of the story. The book is pretty much conforming to what the genre is about, growth, morality that is to be discarded in favour of power but not quite completely. I wondered why this genre is so successful and why I actually like it enough to keep buying these books. I guess it's because we are in a way mentally preparing for some kind of apocalyptic scenario. Or we like playing games but are too lazy to actually play. But back to the book. What I like is how it conforms to the genre but has enough originality to be worth sharing the time with the book, the author, the hero. It's not great, but of all the books I listened to lately, it's definitely one of the better ones.

I did not pay much attention to the speaker, I guess that's a good sign, because it means he didn't mess up. The speakers probably deserve much more attention than they get.

Good Mixup Fantasy Progression Book

I really like Ryoun's point of view or the switches to his allys and co.

I enjoyed the fights and the story in general.


But it has a few problems and weakppoints.

1. Sometimes the Voice Actor seems to mix up names of one off enemys. Because they're similar xD.
2. WAAAAAYYYY to much Status Screens. One can do these differently. I feel asleep twice or so during these.
3. The sealing of his abilitys and chi .... was kinda pointless. And the whole forced weakness, even after that ... well pointless too.
4. Zach .... i don't like him. Ryoun is fine. But a goody two shoes character, that knows that he might be wrong. But think he's on the right side, as long as the law is it too ... is just bad for any story. Hypocrite Goodytwo shoes are boring too :D.

And that's the reason i wont get the second book.
Cause when i checked, i found out that most of the second one is all about Zach ... too bad. I had liked the story so far and i am kinda exicted to know what happens next. But probaböy Ryoun will comeback book 3 and they both will fight in that tournament. Sooo ... it becomes kinda predictable from there.

Zach is boring and it gets worse

The book has two MC, a fun one and a bore. That bore is what makes this series unbearable the further you go. Honestly, you should check online in which direction the series will move and get something else if you don't like it. I did it way too late. Out of tens of litrpg series I've read so far, this will be the 4th I'll ever drop right after the 3rd book. Zach is just boring, yet he will get more and more spotlight and power with every book, making ryun less and less relevant. Absolutely undeserved, if I may say so.
