Kritikerstimmen

"Lindsay C. Gibson, PsyD, gives practical insight into a prevalent problem.... The book is impeccably clear.... This utter lack of confusion makes the book quite soothing, despite the heavy subject." ( Foreword Magazine)

One of the best books I've read/heard on the topic! Informative, well-structured and well-delivered. An eye-opener. Wholeheartedly recommend.

Just incredible!

recommended by my therapist and I agree with all the reviews that it is a very good and useful book. I'd recommend it to all highly sensitive people out there.

This is a good book. If you've read a lot of psychology books, this will be more like a good refresher with a bit of new info. If you haven't, this is a good start to your journey.

Overall very good

I like how this book helps you to understand what happened to you better and not be so angry about your parents and the things they did to you. this gives you a healthy distance to the things they do. I have heard of all the things she talked about in therapy and it makes me glad to see that no matter where you are from, you learn the same things. this book helped me to refresh my memory about the things I forget.

when she talked about the criteria for being an internalizer I started to cry because I really felt like she was talking about me.

A very good book

Literally the book I I didn’t know I was looking for. Finally somebody verbalized what I was struggling to express. So many great stories and examples, too.
Only the “solutions” are not quite for everybody. I think, here a more pragmatical principle would need to be formulated.

Good balance between psychoeducation and self-help exercises. Specific Constructs are underlined with (real? Fictionalized?) examples to help you understand and adapt specific traits and concepts to your own experiences - along with scientific psychological findings and concepts (even if explained or referred to only briefly)
Great for understanding your own (possibly mixed or unresolved) feelings and where specific character traits derive from.
As the book itself explains pretty clearly: the most important step is defining and accepting your own true feelings, which basically lays the foundation for every further step. this book is perfect for shifting your own perspective, understanding not only your “adult-figure” but also yourself better. It helped me uncover certain patterns in my own behavior and gave me a new angle in tackling those issues.

Good balance, easy to understand
