Thuroughly enjoyed it!

I might have a soft spot for gay love stories, but this book had me laughing, and crying so many times. The story just felt really plausible, and close to home, and the characters were well written and developed. Also the narrators are both perfect for their respective roles. Loved it!

Smart and hot and seriously great narrators

This is obviously a sexy story (duuh) and does it deliver. But it's also smart and lovely and has a really interesting character progression and insight. Making the story and men in it make sense.
Also the narrators work great for the two mains adding a lot of nuance and life.

I understand better why some ppl are into BDSM

My least favourite from the Spires universe, but it has it's moments! Plus it gives a very nice explanation why someone might be into BDSM.
Missed the recipe (Lemon tart!!!!) at the end. The other books from the series all have a recipe.

I always love to come back to it.

Lovely story with some really well written spicy scenes. I fell in love with the characters in an instant and the book does not have unnecessary side characters which usually turn me off of these kind of stories.
Tobys speaker is a bit louder so you always have to adjust the audio. (Which is not the speakers fault so I still gave 5 stars).

I came for a cheap sexy thrill,

but then I stayed for the utterly brilliant writing! The emotional intelligence of this author seems off the charts, really. The writing skills required for dialogue on that level makes me believe this is a pseudonym of one of the biggest names in literature. But it seems Mr. Hall is quite real, and judging by the quantity of his output, (and the intensity and urgency of this text) is just someone who would stop living, if he had to stop writing. I have never been so surprised. And indeed, on top of it, the speakers are a treat and very well cast. This book is thoroughly enjoyable.

A wonderful performance of a lovely book.

I am sure I will listen to this book again and again. It's is a lovely audio version of a lovely book. The book has changing points of view, and in the same way the audiobook has two narrators. Toby, a young man with a wild combination of certainty and uncertainty, Laurie, older and more jaded, with his emotions locked away but so open, physically. The alternating voices felt very real in print, but even more so here.

Haben Sie vorher schon ein Hörbuch mit John Hartley and Paul Berton gehört? Wie würden Sie beide vergleichen?

This was my first time with these narrators, but I think they did a marvellous job. Laurie's narrator has a lovely RP accent (and also does a passable Aussie accent). He's slightly melodramatic, and manages to convey Laurie's jaded, slightly cynical and "given up hope of more in life" attitude very well. Toby's narrator is clearly younger, and combines wide eyed marvel, late teenage passion and slightly gleeful cruelty very nicely. It's more than just "read," but done with conviction and emotion, and it really works. Which is what I liked most--how the narrators drag me in, emotionally. It does feel real. They bring this wonderful story to life and give it flesh.

Wow

Zuerst bin ich immer etwas skeptisch und kann Sprecher und Person im Buch nicht gleich zusammenbringen. Aber hier passt alles: die beiden Sprecher lassen Bilder von Toby und Laurie im Kopf entstehen, man lebt mit Ihnen. Und die Story selbst ist einfach nur 'Wow', intensiv, gefühlvoll, sexy, mit durchdachten Dialogen und viel 'Insight' in die Gedanken von Toby und Laurie.

einfach nicht meins

Alexis Hall ist als Autor gut, die Hauptfiguren sind insgesamt sympathisch. Aber mit dem wichtigsten Element des Buchs dueser speziellen Spielart von Liebe (dom/sub), bin ich einfach nicht warm geworden. Eine der Stimmen mochte ich auch nicht, das hat wenig mit der Sprecherleistung zu tun. Aber dadurch war es mehr Pflicht als Vergnügen, das Buch zuende zu hören.
