Summary:
Preston has a hard past (and present). His mother was killed and his father, a skilled surgeon with a great reputation, cuts him and sews him back together without drugs. His reason: to correct his behaviour. Preston is scared of touch and absolutely terrified of his father but still obeys him since he fears his sister would be the next target. He doesn’t have friends and no one to comfort him. He doesn’t even know what comfort is. His father forces him to transfer to Darby where he joins the hockey team. His new roommate is also his teammate - Jeremy. Though Preston tries hard not show his struggles in front of anyone and keeps everyone at arm’s length, Jeremy somehow wiggles his way into Preston's life. He starts to help him, soothes him back to sleep when he has nightmares and lets him use him for sex to get out his anger. They fall in love and Preston finally tells the truth. In Jeremy’s family he finds love and acceptance for the first time. But even with him at his side, he still has to deal with his dad. But how can they fight him without getting his sister in danger? Would anyone even believe him?
I absolutely loved the story but it starts extremely dark and will definitely trigger many people. The abuse Preston has to suffer through is absolutely horrible. But as soon as Jeremy comes into his life, we see him become a person, not just a victim. The change within him due to the love and affection he finally gets is described perfectly.
To sum up: If you need a light read, skip this one! If you want a story that you'll think about days later that leaves you hot and cold throughout but eventually warms your heart, this one's for you.
