Kiss the Villain was my first Rina Kent book, and honestly? I didn’t know if this level of dark romance would be my thing. But from page one, I was completely hooked—and I stayed invested until the very last page. I loved every single minute of it.
Add the absolutely top-notch narration to that, and you’ve got yourself a five-star read in this genre. Truly, I don’t even have the words for how insanely good the audio experience was.
The story itself is a forbidden age-gap romance between a professor and his student. I went in completely blind, expecting everything—and I think that’s exactly why this book worked so well for me. It’s very different from what I usually read, but that only made it more compelling.
Their relationship is toxic, disturbing, uncomfortable, and nearly deadly in the beginning. Both MMCs are highly intelligent, possessive, obsessive, malicious, and wildly unhinged. The power imbalance is intense early on, and some of their interactions—especially as they explore their sexuality—are shocking, painful, and twisted. The dynamic is deeply uneven at first, yet their chemistry is off the charts.
Despite all of that, the banter is sometimes hilarious, the tension is razor-sharp, and the spice is seriously hot. But what I admire most about Rina Kent’s writing is this: even though these characters (and honestly, most people in this book) seem ready for a stay at the Cuckoo’s Nest, you end up liking them… and rooting for them.
🎧 Duet Narration: Beyond spectacular.
I’ve listened to many audiobooks narrated by Grayson Owens and Stephen Dexter—both are longtime favorites of mine—but this performance topped everything I’ve heard before. Together they killed it....Pun intended ;-). Grayson Owens, in particular, absolutely owned the role of Gareth. His layered performance captured every emotion imaginable: unhinged thoughts, disgust, infatuation, anger, self-destruction, vulnerability, and pain. You didn’t just hear the story—you felt it.
The HEA was deeply satisfying, and I was genuinely relieved that this didn’t end on a cliffhanger.
