    Inhaltsangabe

Jay Shetty, social media superstar and host of the number one podcast On Purpose, distills the timeless wisdom he learned as a monk into practical steps anyone can take every day to live a less anxious, more meaningful life.

When you think like a monk, you’ll understand:

    • How to overcome negativity
    • How to stop overthinking
    • Why comparison kills love
    • How to use your fear
    • Why you can’t find happiness by looking for it
    • How to learn from everyone you meet
    • Why you are not your thoughts
    • How to find your purpose
    • Why kindness is crucial to success
    • And much more

Shetty grew up in a family where you could become one of three things - a doctor, a lawyer, or a failure. His family was convinced he had chosen option three: Instead of attending his college graduation ceremony, he headed to India to become a monk, to meditate every day for four to eight hours, and devote his life to helping others.

After three years, one of his teachers told him that he would have more impact on the world if he left the monk’s path to share his experience and wisdom with others. Heavily in debt, and with no recognizable skills on his résumé, he moved back home in North London with his parents. Shetty reconnected with old school friends - many working for some of the world’s largest corporations - who were experiencing tremendous stress, pressure, and unhappiness, and they invited Shetty to coach them on well-being, purpose, and mindfulness.

Since then, Shetty has become one of the world’s most popular influencers. In 2017, he was named in the Forbes magazine 30-under-30 for being a game-changer in the world of media. In 2018, he had the number one video on Facebook with more than 360 million views. His social media following totals more than 38 million, he has produced more than 400 viral videos that have amassed more than eight billion views, and his podcast, On Purpose, is consistently ranked the world’s number one health and wellness podcast.

In this inspiring, empowering book, Shetty draws on his time as a monk to show us how we can clear the roadblocks to our potential and power. Combining ancient wisdom and his own rich experiences in the ashram, Think Like a Monk reveals how to overcome negative thoughts and habits and access the calm and purpose that lie within all of us. He transforms abstract lessons into advice and exercises we can all apply to reduce stress, improve relationships, and give the gifts we find in ourselves to the world. Shetty proves that everyone can - and should - think like a monk.

    I will re-listen, that's sure!

Jay's very engaging, warm and energetic voice with its calming energy (funny combo), his compelling life story and so many wise quotes I'm always trying to catch and write down... Of the 100s books on self-development I had (tried) to read/finish/apply, this one is definitely at the top! i am not sure though if I'd like the written book as much as the audio book because I love hearing his voice! Moreover, his guided meditations are top

P.S: From the end of the book:
    Write down:
    - everything you've been chasing in your life
    - where does this comes from (family, culture, your inner mission...)
    - whether you still want to chase each of these dreams.

Shift your monkey mind to a monk mind

A joyful well structured ride with the author himself diving into his own experience of a monk's life. Transformation starts by being true to yourself and continues with taking action daily from now until last. With traditional wisdoms fit into modern day life Jay brings light on the nature of our minds, emotions and habits. His talent for wording and phrasing as well as the conclusions he draws from his realizations are contagious and easy to follow along. On top of revealing his insights he offers a comprehensive manual of small routines to practice finding and living our dharma.

p.s. for my taste the reading could be a little slower since the content often takes time to grasp and reflect. I guess just like reading a paper book pausing and rewinding is the natural and sometimes necessary thing to do here ;)

At first I though to by this book in paper form, but then I thought no an audio book would be better bcs I love the voice of jay shetty. He really speaks to my core and motivates me, so when I saw that he is actually reading it, my decision was clear and i dont regret it, best decision ever. ♡

you need to Listen to this book.

I'm German and had no problems to listen to Jay's beautiful voice. He read slowly and really clear. His book is a good choice to listen to, if you are unhappy with yourself. If you are struggling with depression or others. Jay's book helped me a lot the last couple of days and I definitely will listen to it twice or more.

    Worth a read - not a listen

Inspiriational and easy to grasp insights. However, the author's voice make it extremely hard to follow. Every single word is over-accentuated, which interupts the flow and makes it tough to focus.
