a lot of fluff and underperforming Narrator

Too much fluff and social media quotes. not enough of the actual promised content (e.g. scientific background on the formula).
+ I don't need the narrator to tell me she's hungry while reading or using many many filler words..

Many ways of saying the same thing over

I find the principle of this book great, I enjoy Hearing Mel Robbins speak, but after Hearing a few core Statements repeatedly by the 6th chapter, I decided, that I could not waste more time on this and return the book.
Sorry, but I really expected more from this Author

Even next to all the little glitches this book has, it is a must-read!

I loved Mel Robbins from the moment she popped up on my Facebook feed with that getting out of bed story. I learned about the book, but wasn’t too keen on paying for it, because these self help books are most of the time pathetic and tacky. I followed Mel on social media for a while, I subscribed to her weekly e-mail and after all this time letting her motivate me, I decided to read the book.
I’ve read a couple of reviews and they mostly say that she repeats the same sentence over and over again.
Honestly, there are some thing that you will hear repeatedly and there is some tackiness and unneeded drama too, BUT if you look past all that, Mel has done something groundbreaking here, which is she combined all the major culprits that contribute to the misery in our lives, which are fear, anxiety, bad habits, negativity, oblivious mindsets that we have toward our lives and even simple inactivity (read laziness) and she has decoded them all and explained the reasons behind them in a simple and understandable way. And she has then given us a tool to help us deal with all of that stuff. Yes, in the end, it all comes down to willpower, but the 5-second-rule is described as a starting ritual and that’s exactly what it is. The whole book makes you realize that you are responsible for your own life and if you realize that you are the one who can and then really decide to change your life, the 5-second-rule gives you a platform with which you can rise above all the reasons not to do it. It also makes you recognize all the opportunities in a single day that you can take advantage of. Honestly after reading the book I’m able to recognize those moments when I can and should use the rule and I feel more motivated to do it, because now I see opportunities to actually really change everything that is bothering me in my life.
All of the stories that she tells in the book are not irrelevant, but crucial to you not dismissing the power of those 5 seconds, because if you don’t really look into it, as we in today’s society never really do anymore, it does sound extremely stupid. But somehow it works.
I love the book. It inspired me, it motivated me, it calmed my crazy, anxious mind and it gave me hope that all the negative thoughts I have are just my mind’s masterful illusions and that they are reversible.
I also think that someone who hasn’t yet hit the lowest point in their life and hasn’t experienced the stuff she talks about will not fully understand the benefits of this book. But I hope they remember to go back to it, once the shadow comes for them too.
The crying in the end isn’t as dramatic as you would think it to be from some of the other reviews, but it does feel like a marketing trick. Or she could’ve just been tired and emotional after immersing herself into the stories again . Whatever. All in all the book is amazing, it’s up to date with the society and its modern diseases, it’s so wonderfully honest and a good punch in the face and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Repetitive and shallow

Found this book on a list of 100 "must listen to" audiobooks and was intrigued. After downloading and listening I was utterly disappointed by how repetitive and shallow Mrs. Robbins narrates her rule.
Another issue that bothered me were constant customer references. Indeed the whole book to me feels like a collection of customer references.

Brilliant!

Listen to Mel and then simply get busy doing what needs to be done when it needs to be done. This book is a game and life changer.

Too much crying

Got very emotional at the end, its not a drama book and its rather unprofessional to cry during a book. Could have edited this out, i did mot want to pay to listen to a woman cry

YES! Yes. Well, yeah. and again?

What Mel Robbins sais is really helpfull, but I got annoyed from hearing everything repeatedly though out the intire book. It should have been 1/3 of the length... But other than that, really good tipps.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1, get to the point!

The book evolves around one single technique and adds some smaller techniques around. Yes, they are definitely good and helpful.

The book however, is terrible.
Seriously: Read a summary, you get all the information you need and don't invest your time. It's worth the money, it's not worth the time.

The author brags 3/4 of the book about how great the rule is, and how many people it helped. She goes on citing almost every single one of them. It literally feels like it was ment to fill the pages. You can fill in 100% of the information on 5 pages. The rest is just noise.

My recommendation: Save your time: Read a summary, the techniques are good, really good. There are 2 really good chapters (of 20 in the audiobook). But the book is not good at all.

Also: She claims to have discovered this technique, but there are very similar techniques from NLP far earlier documented.
