The whole story told by an excellent Rob Inglis. I enjoyed his play and especially his singing of the songs. Thank you for that experience!

Excellent

The story is my all-time favorite.
Great narrative, great voice!

But the singing and the music-compositions...
Oh dear!
Awful, and that's even an euphemism!

No singing please!

It is a pleasure for me listening to this voice with the variations and also the singing. I read the book several times in my mothertongue but I wanted to read the original as well. Then this opportunity came to me to listen instead of reading it myself and I am very glad about that. I enjoyed it very much.

In the 1970s and 80s Rob Inglis performed a one man stage version of The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit. This is where it all began. There Inglis developed a deep understanding of the various characters in Tolkien’s work. After a while he knew how every hobbit, dwarf, wizard, and orc had to sound to be believable. The critics began to praise his stage shows and in 1990 he was asked by “Recorded Books” to produce an unabridged audio version of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
I listened to the audiobook. I was drawn into the audiobook. I lost myself in the audiobook.
With the first words of Inglis, Middle-earth awakens. Not that it is a spectacular voice that we as audience hear. It is this calm, matter-of-fact manner of Inglis’ narration that lures the listener into the realms of Tolkien. It is just stimulating enough to encourage the listener to use his own imagination to create his/her own images. The first time I have read the books, these images were silent – like a silent film in my head. This time, listening to Rob Inglis, they had a voice. The fact that Inglis does not use any sound effects and even sings the songs himself is one of his major strengths. The listener feels that anything additional to this voice would not enhance the experience, which speaks volumes of the quality of the reading.
Can I imagine somebody reading an unabridged version of the novel in a better way? Probably not. Rob Inglis has created an audiobook for the ages.

One for the ages?

I can only recommend this audiobook. The narrator captures the ghost of Talkien quite well and is able to radiate the passion that went into his books.

Like always a masterpiece

I love the world of Lord of the rings but heavily struggled eith the writing stile. Rob Inglis brings Middle Earth and its heroes to life in a special way. Amazing trilogy.

This is one of my most favorite Audiobooks.
At least once a year I listen to the complete series while driving car.

Rob Inglis in my Opinion is one of the best Narrator there is.

Suitably "old fashioned", wonderful, calm but melodious and rhythmic reading.
Breaks and coherently paced passages, make it not only easy, but a real pleasure to follow along and immerse oneself in the slowly unraveling story.

The only thing that's extremely odd, is the choice of a fade to the most ridiculously I'll-fitted music at the stories end. Spoils surfacing from the experience. Oh well...

LOTR + Rob Inglis = Perfection
