The forerunner to The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion tells the earlier history of Middle-earth, recounting the events of the First and Second Ages, and introducing some of the key characters, such as Galadriel, Elrond, Elendil and the Dark Lord, Sauron.

The tales of The Silmarillion are set in an age when Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, dwelt in Middle-earth, and the High Elves made war upon him for the recovery of the Silmarils, the jewels containing the pure light of Valinor.

Included on the recording are several shorter works. The Ainulindalë is a myth of the Creation and in the Valaquenta the nature and powers of each of the gods is described. The Akallabêth recounts the downfall of the great island kingdom of Númenor at the end of the Second Age, and Of the Rings of Power tells of the great events at the end of the Third Age, as narrated in The Lord of the Rings.

This brand-new unabridged recording is read by the acclaimed actor, director and author, Andy Serkis.

Andy Serkis gelingt es, aus dem stellenweise etwas sperrigen Silmarillion ein mitreißendes Hörbuch zu machen, für mich die ultimative Version der Geschichten aus dem ersten Zeitalter. Und der kleine Schlenker ins Dritte Zeitalter zum Schluss, bei dem man fast meint, Ian McKellens Gandalf zu hören, weckt die Lust, sofort mit dem Hobbit weiterzumachen.

I've read the Silmarillion before and when I heard of an audiobook of it spoken by the one and only Andy Serkis, I was so hyped to listen to it.
Yes, some of the English phrases can be quite possible to understand due to its old type.
But the stories are just so divine, I think it fits very well.
And Andy who is so enthused by the whole universe Tolkien created is just rockin' it.
The way he takes his time to read and articulate are simply perfect.

Definitely a recommendation for all fans of the books of The Lord of the Rings!

Andy Serkis did a phenomenal job narrating The Silmarillion. I listened to it already 2 times and if you like the Silmarillion as much as I do you will enjoy this piece.
