    Inhaltsangabe

Ambitious Daily Sentinel journalist Lauren King is chaffing on LA’s vapid social circuit, reporting on glamorous A-list parties while sparring with her rival - the formidable, icy Catherine Ayers. Ayers is an ex-Washington political correspondent who suffered a humiliating fall from grace, and her acerbic, vicious tongue keeps everyone at bay. Everyone, that is, except knockabout Iowa girl King, who is undaunted and unimpressed and gives as good as she gets.

One night a curious story unfolds before their eyes: one political launch, 34 prostitutes and a palette of missing pink champagne. Can the warring pair work together to unravel an incredible story?

This is a lesbian fiction with more than a few mysterious twists.

    Etwas anderes erwartet

    Not my narrator

I might have returned the title had I not really wanted to listen to it. So far, Lee Winter's books don't disappoint, I really like the story!
The narrator however is no comparison to Angela Dawe. While she's good with the intonation, her voice is constantly throaty and breathless it kept me on edge the whole time. This was not a pleasant listening experience despite the story.

    Smart Pay

A book that can be enjoyed. It touches a few very intense topics, but the author made it interesting until the last moment. It isn’t , however a great idea to read two of the authors book back to back. There are similarities that could make the reader agitated or lose interest. The main characters had witty dialogue and some hot interactions.

    lee winter, my fav author

👉🏻 This is my fifth Lee Winter book (!) and each time she leaves me speechless. I am truly amazed at how she always pulls stories like this out of her sleeve. This one, however, really impressed me because this story comprises many layers and characters that move the story forward. How the hell did she come up with this storyline? I don’t know. What I know is that Lee Winter has become one of my favourite authors. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the great moments you’ve given me.

“My problem” after finishing her books is always that I call each one “my favourite” until I read her next book. I can only conclude that I have simply come to not only appreciate but also love all of her works.

💡 This book is a mystery that unravels bit by bit. When I thought I could predict the ending, I was in for a surprise or two. The mystery is accompanied by the 2 great main characters, but polar opposites: Lauren King and Catherine Ayers. Lauren is from the Midwest, down to earth and approachable. Catherine, who is called the “Caustic Queen”, is distant, cold and unpredictable. Her cold attitude kept their relationship on its toes, and so the plot of the book.

♥️ I LOVED it when the clues unfolded and I had to put the pieces together. And I am indescribably and irrevocably in love with Catherine Ayers. She is the queen of all ice queens - trapped in my heart forever.

I will definitely pick up this book, as well as all of Lee Winter’s others, again soon.

    Took me some nerves

The story itself is good. Some action scenes, hot looks, not too predictable. BUT. It was hard to stick by it in the beginning. The first like 4 chapters were boring as hell, the narration really took some time to get used to and until both MC's were hitting the road together I argued whether to give the audio book back or to fight through it. The only thing keeping me from ordering a refund was the hype about this book. Not only by readers, but from other authors as well. So - I stuck by. And that's it.

    I didn't hate it, I didn't love it.
Would I recommend this audio book? No.

Am I going to stick by the author? Hell yes. Lee Winter is a fantastic writer and I love her style and storys. I really recommend taking a look at her other publications. 'Breaking Character', 'Brutal Truth' and her newest book 'Hotel Queens' are worth any minute and penny spent.
