Über diesen Titel

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of The Chalk Man by C. J. Tudor, read by Andrew Scott and Asa Butterfield.

None of us ever agreed on the exact beginning.

Was it when we started drawing the chalk figures, or when they started to appear on their own?

Was it the terrible accident?

Or when they found the first body?

the jung Eddie narrator is significantly better than the old Eddie narrator.
old Eddie sounds like he's half asleep. I can't even tell apart people in a conversation sometimes. most of the time I can not hear him properly because of his deliberately hushed voice. it's at the point I can not keep listening. what a shame.

about the story, when Tudor said she got her inspiration from Stephen King, I didn't think it was this straightforward. the story can almost pass off as reversion of IT.
the delivery of the book....
"'Never assume,' my dad once told me. 'To assume makes an "ass" out of "u" and "me",.... 'See this chair? You believe it will still be here, where it is now, in the morning?'
'Yes'
'Then you assume.'....
'The only way to be sure this chair is going to stay in the exact same spot is to glue it to the floor.'

... wtf?

mediocre

Not sure what to call CJ Tudor's books, thriller seems to dramatic a word. As usual, the main character Ed Addams, a typical antihero and underachiever, stumbles across a riddle from his past. In a nicely developed story with many intriguing characters we alternate between the 1989 and 2016 with him until the final twist is revealed. Brilliantly performed by talented actors Andrew Scott and Asa Butterfield who masterly breathe life into the ever doubtful, empathic but isolated main character. Solid storytelling, but similar in structure to other books by CJ Tudor, hence only 4 stars.

Perfect holiday book, psychological thriller

Well read. Interesting story. Enjoyed listening to it. Not too gory but full of suspense. I hope to hear more from the author.

what a great story

the overall voices of the readers is quite nice, but the pacing is sometimes so off, that I thought I missed part of the story and went back. during dialogues it is sometimes unclear which line belongs to whom and there is quite the disconnect between the younger and older "storyteller"

the story overall is quite nice but it reminds me a lot of IT by Stephen king, at times.
the second book (about the return of annie - the hiding place) is by far my favourite of the two.

Story fine, delivery poor

The narator of adult Eddie is utterly boring. None of the characters are likeable. There are seemingly endless, pointless and disgusting descriptions.
In my opinion this is no thriller, but coming of age story, alcoholism struggle, and abuse-survival drama.

Boring story, awful narator

Schlechte Leser, langweiliger Text

3x angefangen, schreckl. monotone Stimme, Umtausch, kann nicht einmal den Inhalt der ersten Kapitel wiedergeben
