Über diesen Titel

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Talking to My Daughter About the Economy: A Brief History of Capitalism by Yanis Varoufakis.

Why is there so much inequality?

In this short book, world famous economist Yanis Varoufakis sets out to answer his 11-year-old daughter Xenia's deceptively simple question. Using personal stories and famous myths - from Oedipus and Faust to Frankenstein and The Matrix - he explains what the economy is and why it has the power to shape our lives.

Intimate yet universally accessible, Talking to My Daughter About the Economy introduces listeners to the most important drama of our times, helping to make sense of a troubling world while inspiring us to make it a better one.

Kritikerstimmen

"A provocative, challenging, yet non-patronising analysis of the global economy: what it is, how it came to be and why it can never be apolitical. By using ancient myths, contemporary culture and family stories, Varoufakis makes the text intimate and accessible." ( Observer)
"Utterly accessible, deeply humane and startlingly original – a potent democratic tool at the perfect time." (Naomi Klein, author of No is Not Enough)

Eye-opening insights in the nebulous world of economics. Language used is easy enough for non-experts like me to understand the topics covered. Anecdotes here and there further explain dry subjects.
Highly recommended to anyone

This is a very nicely written book by a quite misunderstood figure and former finance minister of Greece, J. Varoufakis. He described and elaborated on market societies, an appropriate alias for capitalism, with plain language and a series of allegory from mythology. This sometimes goes too far but it is generally enjoyable offering a smooth detour and achieving its explanatory goal. His main thesis that money cannot and should not be apolitical and the discussion on bitcoin were a good attempt to elaborate briefly on these concepts which aren't found commonly in popularized economics books. Finally the narration was flawless, and having watched Varoufakis speaking, I would say even assuming the author's very style.

Very enjoyable audio book for everyone

Short, plain, the point, enjoyable but incredibly educative...

Economics make the world go around or not and now at least I can follow what they 'scientists' are talking about :-)
Really a must read book. I would even suggest that it should be used at highschool to explain the core of capitalism and its interrelationship with democracy!

At last I understand
