Compelling description of the state of Germany

This is a well organised and referenced analysis of the economic, political and, to some extent, social failings in Germany over the last decades. As an inhabitant of Germany with a “immigration background”, I can confirm many of the attitudes expressed about the particular form of exceptionalism ring true. Münchau describes a country that is doing its best to defeat itself. The path to a better future, if it can be achieved, will be long, weary and complicated. This book should be compulsory reading for German citizens and in German schools. Highly recommended

I found the narrator’s voice somewhat sneering in tone at first. I would urge the listener to stick with it as overall it seems to represent the author’s sense of incredulity at the myriad failures in business, economic and government policy fairly well.

Interessant und gut zu hören

Münchau gelingt eine gute Analyse der Ursachen einer relativ undynamischen und undiversifizierten Wirtschaftslandschaft in Deutschland. Politisch geführte Landesbanken, der Einfluss der Autokonzerne, etc.

I was hoping for more.

I was hoping for more! Although well-written and at times interesting, I don't think the content adds much if you're already well-informed through the press and internet. I bought the book with the aim of going deeper and better understanding the downfall of contemporary Germany. In fact, I was expecting something on the level of “The Strange Death of Europe” by Douglas Murray and this frustrated me because Kaput doesn't even come close to Murray's book. Time and time again, the writer presents electric cars as a panacea and forgets that electric cars only exist as a reaction to a Chinese geopolitical issue and not for ecological reasons. When the book came to an end, I was surprised and I confess that I was hoping for more. I don't want to say that the information presented is wrong, but your analysis is superficial to me.
