    Darkness never dies.

Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land, all while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. But she can't outrun her past or her destiny for long.

The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling's game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her - or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.

    Love it

Not as good as the first book but in terms of worldbuilding and pushing the story further very nice. Although I missed some action I definitely enjoyed it, we learn more about the main characters and how alina is changing slowly and tries to accept it but is struggling with her new role and what she needs to do to save her people.

Beste Fantasy-Story seit Game Of Thrones

    Do not recommend it

This story is just not very rounded. The main character rambles on and on in inner monologues that didn't touch me in any way.
The lack of clear motives within the main character is annoying. The changes of setting in the beginning of the story were nice but very soon the story settled in the little palace again - a very boring place in my opinion.
For some reason I had the hope that the second book would be better but I did not enjoy it any more than the first.
My dislike for the way this audiobook sounds has not changed aswell. I think the intonation of the sentences is hard to listen to for hours and the male voices except the Darkling's sound ridiculous.
I will not listen to the last book of this series. I've had enough.

    Für pubertierende Mädchen

Gähnende Langweile. Kaum Handlung. Uninteressante Personen. Vielleicht für junge Mädchen interessant. Den dritten Teil kann ich mir sparen.

Now I know what cultural appropriation truly means

The first one was bad, the second one is worse. This is not "Russia-inspired", it's a horrible hackup of made up words and stolen customs. The narrator mispronouncing words or randomly adding russian accents makes it worse. And is there no test listener to catch blunders like "tsarista"?

    Schade

Die Geschichte hat mich in diesem zweiten Buch leider nicht mitreißen können. Ich fand es langweilig und die Hauptfiguren emotional flach. Schade!

A boring superpowergirl story poorly narrated

How can the same author who wrote the crow series underperform so greatly? This story is antagonizingly boring, clueless, and redundant like it was written by a pre-teen girl. Well, this isn't fair. My 9yold dauther can write better stories. The plot is shallower than that of any fairy tale. Its all about: will the poor little girl with the superpowers kiss her guardian hero or rather the mighty prince who spends his time pirating or the handsome badboy who rules an army of monsters and fell in love with her? The orphan is asked all the time to mary this or that prince and cannot decide, because the guys are all so cute. I passed the audio book on to my daugther and even she was bored to death.
