I have listened to a lot of Romantasy lately and finally decided to give ACOTAR a try. I chose the anniversary edition so each book in this series would be read by the same speaker and she did a great job. In my opinion the book dragged on a bit in the first half and I wondered what the hype was about. I loved the second half and will now buy the second book in the series. I can't wait to hear what happens next to the main characters!

Auch wenn der Anfang etwas langatmig war, habe ich gut in die Geschichte rein gefunden und konnte dann nicht mehr davon ablassen.
Elizabeth Evans macht einen hervoragenden Job und hat Feyre einen ganz besonderen Charakter eingehaucht. Ich liebe ihre Intonation und wie sie mit der Sprechgeschwibdigkeit variiert. Top!

Mitreißend und süchtig machend

This amalgamation of Hunger Games, Twilight and lots of Beauty and the Beast manages to entertain in parts. The descriptions and prose are competently written and there are genuinely spooky and alien moments in the fairie realm. Some of the plot has been woven interestingly and gives the "Chosen One" narrative a certain intriguing spin. The dialogue and the overall story, though, especially the main characters, both good and evil, are very boring archetypes who stay just that - archetypes.

I can see how people might like this, but it, sadly, is not written with enough of a focus and a narrative goal in mind to keep me reading/listening beyond this first entry -- even though I hear the second entry has a plot twist that shines a new light on the whole thing. Then again, I also hear that tragically beautiful good boy gets character-assassinated and tragically beautiful bad boy becomes the love interest, so.... no thank you.

I see how someone might like this - I like Beauty and the Beast too, after all
