Über diesen Titel

"I've awakened in a stone box about the size of a large coffin.... I'm filthy, everything aches, and, by the various so-called gods, I smell awful. I've woken up in worse places. Hmm. What does that say about my life choices?" (Eric, amateur magician, part-time vampire, and accidental king)

It's not easy being king. Especially when you've got an allergy to sunrise and sunset, a fire goddess for a mother-in-law, demonic adversaries, random assassins, and a basement full of insecurities to cope with. Add to that his daughter, the fire priestess/princess; a couple of lightly deranged professional magicians; a whole city full of wizards; and enough squabbling princes to resemble a kindergarten argument. It's enough to make a man want to just go home. Luckily for Eric, he has the world's fastest pet rock, a smart-mouthed sword, and a horse that not only understands him but likes him anyway.

Can‘t Imagine why I Never Heard about this book/ author before, I‘m really impressed! Totally recommend it!

Wow

This might be one of the most annoying, unsatisfying and unsettling endings I ever witnessed in a book. I find it extremely irritating. Imagine you listen to 40h of rather interesting storytelling and after 20h you know from the hints given, that the ending might be shit - and then you can't quite enjoy the rest of the story only to find out, that you were right and the ending is in fact dissatisfying. This would be fine if the author would not have choosen to put this very much story altering and disturbing part at the end, where it is not resolved.

I would also like to see more strategic thinking from the protagonist, since he runs into any and all traps that are laid out for him.

With different ending or somewhat "resolving" this frustrating "cliffhanger" I would give 4.3/5

However, the current version includes this imo frustrating "cliffhanger" which depreciates the "satisfaction level" of the entire book: 2.2/5

Make up your own mind - if you enjoy unsettling cliffhangers after a 40h long story, which cumulates predictably in this ending, than I can recommend this book for you.

Otherwise I and probably you as well, have to weigh, whether or not this book is worth 40h of your life as a foundation for the following books. You will enjoy at least half of it.. and if you don't listen to or think about the obvious hints that will help "predict" the final conflict, than you might enjoy the following 18h as well. However, the ending.. personal preference I guess.

Immensely unsatisfying ending
