ich habe es echt lieben gelernt

Es beginnt ein bisschen langsamer aber es wird echt schnell gut.
Dabei muss man sagen das der Hauptcharakter weit realistischer ist als die von so manch anderen Bücher.
Er macht fehlen und hat gute Ideen die in den Kontext passen.

I was on the fence with this but it actually is a great book. Not too serious and entertaining the entire time!

greater than expected

the writing has been pleasant. characters are believable and true growth happens beyond levels.
It is a great spin on video game worlds.

there are quite a few time skips which are appropriate so be warned.

Absolute Spitze

Tolle Story, wo mal der Hauptcharakter nicht hat was er sich nur wünschen kann.
Sondern feststellt das er einfach nur ein Farmer ist...
Finde alleine die Idee dahinter super und das Hörbuch dreht sich darum, was Arnold alles versucht um zu vermeiden Farmen zu müssen. Verständlich! Denn mir würde es genauso ergehen, denn ich hasse es auch im Garten arbeiten zu müssen.
Warte gebannt auf die Fortsetzung!

Great Book with great worldbuilding

It took me a bit to getting used to the accent, but that was pretty much the only thing that really bugged me.
The worldbuilding in this is really good. I love how building up the village was set up like a strategy game, a very rare occurence in the LitRPG genere from my experience with it.
Overall I think the story is great, really hope to see it continue in the future.

It was a blast. Great and fun book. Can't wait for part two. The Story had a new fresh style. The Upgrade system is Details and interesting.

If you don't like it at first, give it some time

That corporal punishment scene right in the beginning didn't bode well for the main character or the story, but it turned out to be decent.

Überraschend Gut

Zufällig über den Titel gestolpert und jetzt freue ich mich auf eine Fortsetzung. Interessante Charaktere und gut durchdachte Story mit einem genialen Sprecher.

Puma Review

I did not like this book, and come to think of it I like “LitRPG” even less, I am squarely in a little audiobook binge right now and wanted to immerse myself in some good fantasy/urban fantasy stuff, this came up and I went straight for it based on the cover and title alone, I thought it was funny, unfortunately in doing so I committed the oldest faux pas in the literary world and felt it.

I have only been vaguely aware of the concept of “LitRPG” and even then I didn’t know it had a name (and such a nauseating one at that), I thought this would be a straight forward fantasy novel but nope and many of my criticisms are spearheaded by this dislike. But it’s been two paragraphs already so let’s go to the positives and negatives.

Positives:

-Brilliant narration, many voices handled well, if I hadn’t known better I would have assumed the author himself had narrated it given the understanding of the characters the narrator possesses

-Some fun characters

Negatives:

-The Video game elements aren’t handled well and create a level of distance between the reader and the main character as their descriptions are quite unwieldy and read more like a walkthrough or strategy guide to a game that doesn’t exist.

-The video game elements build up so much over time that by the middle they completely lost me even though I factually understood them.

-It has quite a few breaks in tone where rape, child exploitation and sexual intercourse with dillusional Alzheimer-like ghostly house slaves are briefly touched on an then forgotten.

-The main character comes of as both overly skilled and pretentiously smug, in tabletop RPG circles there’s the common saying that video game RPG heroes essentially become gods far too quickly due to a lack of meaningful active resistance and the challenges being passive rather than active and this is reflected here pretty well.

The central premise, world building and plot are forced and incomprehensible, essentially a pro-strategy -mmo or -RPG gamer gets transported to a fantasy world but everything is a number or a token or one of a number of abstractions used by video games to represent a world, the herein depicted world itself is not a video game …but it is. It”s this Mark Zuckerberg Meta-verse hell scape where everything is governed by character builds stats etc. The main character doesn’t like being forced into the “farmer class” and tries his best to avoid complying with their requirements and essentially becomes… A farmer. An XP Farmer, or… Trapper… of monsters. Why that in itself isn’t a branch comes off as ill explained.

The amount of coping this story does to feed back into this sea of abstractions is staggering. There clearly was a lot of thought putinto the mathmatics of the stats and junk but in the end all this numbering felt like a bad parody of our modern ones and zeros-driven world rather than anything to enrich anybody’s life, In the end the message of the book was about working through, understanding and dealing with work forced upon you but it felt like getting invested in a monkey doing those number pushing tasks they do in laboratories to test reaction times.

The over all circumstances and rules are rarely ever fundamentally questioned, the questionable reality of the world is never questioned and in the end it felt like following a sucker getting his little Skinner box treats being showered with hollow prizes and titles in a world with the veneer of freedom that felt more like a cage. It embodies everything that makes playing video games a pathetic waste of time and sad replacement for actual life, this is coming from someone with 2000 Hours in Fallout 4! I don’t hate gaming or video games, I play them every day but I’m also unwilling to let this go. This book made me hate myself for being part of gaming culture in a way that felt incredibly unintentional.

I would really love to see this author write something without video games or video game elements, just as a friendly challenge, this felt like the literary equivalent of training wheels and I feel sad for him.
