Über diesen Titel
Ever wonder what happened to the Isekai’d gamer who found himself incarnated into the overweight body of a LitRPG farmer, only to spit in the face of destiny and earn more money and experience than anyone ever dreamed possible? Fairytales would have you believe he lived happily ever after, but life doesn’t always match up to fairytale endings.
Accidentally murdered by a cleric in another universe during a botched resurrection, Arnold, a semi-pro gamer turned clerical error, has now become a thorn in the vindictive Northern Regent’s side. To make matters worse, he has a giant stuck in his well, and the adventurers’ guilds are pounding on his door for the chance to kill it (which is more than a little annoying, as all Arnold wants to do is focus on taking his trap method wide while he builds a farm to give down-on-their-luck farmers like him a chance).
However, there is “one” little problem with his plan: changing the world isn’t easy, and Arnold needs an entire industry that doesn’t currently exist.
And resource management is hard.
And trying to find good employees is difficult.
And Blackwood doesn’t have the infrastructure to support all these people (even if he does).
And the regent is out for blood and trying to ruin him.
And no matter what he tries, the giant won’t die.
And for some reason, Ranic wants him to find a goal that gives his life meaning.
So let’s see how well his happily ever after really goes…
©2022 Benjamin Kerei (P)2022 Podium AudioThe story moved away from the "Home Alone" setup during the first book, and went towards politics and all the struggles that come with building a town.
This book continues that trend, and introduces new interesting aspects.
The only thing that seems somewhat sudden is the change to the protagonist's power near the conclusion of the story. While a good theoretical setup for a third book, it's kind of sudden. The main character states that it was a possibility, but even after listening to the story twice, I don't know when it was supposed to get set up as a potential outcome. It's not really fully focused on in this novel, though, so it's far less jarring than it could have been.
"52 Easy Steps" is what I would call a 'capable sequel'.
It doesn't raise the bar for the genre, but it doesn't muck about or lose its identity either. It's nice to listen to, which is above average for the genre of LitRPGs.
A good continuation.

As soon as the first few chapters began, however, I noticed a very unfortunate situation. I don't have time to re-listen to the first part and I had no idea who was who anymore. Worse even, I rarely knew which character was talking at any given time. That likely comes down to them not being very unique, but also to what amounts to a very poor performance by Travis Baldree. To prefice this, I like Travis Baldree as a narrator and I've listened to many of his performances. He just isn't made for this book. There are too many farmer characters and he only ever does one southerner-voice for all of them. All the female characters (of which there are many) also sound very similar.
The second problem is just poor writing. I couldn't stand the scale and scope of what was going on. I liked the framing of it all, Arnold having to figure out what he really wants to do in this second life he was given, but everyhting around that was just... meh. When you count money and experience in the millions, fields in the tens of thousands and hiring farmers in the thousands, all at the start of only the second book, a reader will lose track. I usually don't devote 100% of my attention to a book and that may have also become a detriment here, as I prefer to listen to them while grinding in games or while on a walk.
To conclude, I'm not finishing this entry and I'm sad to say this may be the steepest drop from a first to a second book I've ever witnessed, even if circumstance and the time between the two may have conspired against it.
A steep drop from the first book

Wenn man etliche Guthaben übrig hat, kann man sich das Hörbuch schon anhören, wer aber auf der Suche nach einem spannenden, orginellem Buch mit mitreißenden Stimmen ist, sollte ein anderes Buch wählen.
Sehr durchschnittlich
