What happens when the haggling is done and the shops are closed? When the quest has been given, the steeds saddled, and the adventurers are off to their next encounter? They keep the world running, the food cooked, and the horses shoed, yet what adventurer has ever spared a thought or concern for the Non-Player Characters?In the town of Maplebark, four such NPCs settle in for a night of actively ignoring the adventurers drinking in the tavern when things go quickly and fatally awry. Once the dust settles, these four find themselves faced with an impossible choice: pretend to be adventurers undertaking a task of near-certain death or see their town and loved ones destroyed. Armed only with salvaged equipment, second-hand knowledge, and a secret that could get them killed, it will take all manner of miracles if they hope to pull off their charade. And even if they succeed, the deadliest part of their journey may well be what awaits them at its end.

Was machen die NPCs eigentlich wenn keine Gruppe da ist? Sie Leben und erleben Abenteuer! Rundum sehr unterhaltsam und wird mich für die nächste D&D Session inspiriert!

A nice take on the RPG-Lit genre. The characters are engaging and the plot interesting enough to keep one engaged. Some of the tropes are a bit tired at this point, but one scene in particular turns some of them upside down, which I greatly enjoyed.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It’s fun fantasy and so much homage to the pen and paper RPG I played in my youth. Everyone ever played old school RPG must read it!

Everyone who loves Fantasy, will enjoy it.

Everyone who likes a laugh and unexpected lovable misfit heroes should pick this one up.

Great character (ensemble) driven LitRPG in a D&D-ish world including an intertwining meta setting. Comprehensible, smart writing that effortlessly plays around with many of the genres clichés. The narration is also superb.

Der Sprecher hat einen tollen Job gemacht!
Der Autor spielt hier mit jeder Menge Klischees, dabei fand ich die Charaktere und deren Motivation und Entwicklung am besten. Story war in Ordnung. Insgesamt sehr unterhaltsam.

Ich denke, man muss schon mal RPGs gespielt haben, als purer Fantasy Roman ist es eher mittelmäßig.
