NOT BEING RACIST IS NOT ENOUGH. WE HAVE TO BE ANTIRACIST.

In this rousing and deeply empathetic book, Ibram X. Kendi, one of the world's most influential scholars of racism, shows that neutrality is not an option: until we become part of the solution, we can only be part of the problem.

Using his extraordinary gifts as a teacher and story-teller, Kendi helps us recognise that everyone is, at times, complicit in racism whether they realise it or not, and by describing with moving humility his own journey from racism to antiracism, he shows us how instead to be a force for good. Along the way, Kendi punctures all the myths and taboos that so often cloud our understanding, from arguments about what race is and whether racial differences exist to the complications that arise when race intersects with ethnicity, class, gender and sexuality.

In the process he demolishes the myth of the post-racial society and builds from the ground up a vital new understanding of racism - what it is, where it is hidden, how to identify it and what to do about it.

Great guy. Great book. Great voice. Informative, powerful and gripping. Everybody should read it.
His other books are amazing too so his bibliography is totally worth checking out.

Kendi is love

This one is powerful. The concept of Antiracism, antiracist policies was eye opening. But Kendis own struggles are the most powerful message.

I loved how Kendi intertwines his personal experiences and journey to becoming an antiracist with fact and passion.
His storytelling impressed me with its colourfulness and honesty.
If you are either just interested in finding out more or serious about becoming an antiracist, this book will provide you with plenty of food for thought.
Thank you Ibram!!!

A personal journey worth hearing

I found the book very bad. Basically he says that he used to have what he calls racist views about power, biology, ethnicity, bodies, cultures, behavior, color, whites, blacks class, spaces, genders and sexuality. He was so wrong and held his opinions very strongly. But now he understands that they were racist. Now, I don't want to go into, or rather I don't need to tell what those racist views were, because according to Kendi every view and policy that does not address inequity is racist. Really, it seems to be that easy. If you are not seeing everyone and everything as equal and working for total equity, then you are a racist.
I found that he was more a preacher than a scholar, and he quit frankly seemed to have been pursuing his obstinate 'racist' views with the same fervor with which he now expounds his antiracist views. His book is also like a religious conversion story, he was a racist and lost sinner, who in the final chapter almost died to cancer. But, he survived, and almost as a reborn, he preaches the gospel of antiracism. And, antiracism really seems to be well socialism. It is strange that he makes this strong equation between antiracism and equity, but he really does. Not pursuing equity is being a racist!
I doubt, this will be the last thing Kendi will believe is the absolute truth, but I suspect that he will always be so sure of himself on the outside.

Scholarly preacher of antiracism
