Inhaltsangabe
As they said good-bye to their parents in 1939, Marjie Harrison and her brother, Jim, did not know that they would not see them again for almost seven years!
Marjorie and Jim Harrison were born to missionary parents serving in Southwestern China in the 1930s. At that time, any children had to be sent to the China Inland Mission Boarding School in Northeast China, almost 3,000 miles away! By the end of Marjie's second-grade year, the war between China and Japan was escalating, and travel to and from their home was unsafe. On December 8, 1941, the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Japanese soldiers placed the school under house arrest, not allowing anyone to leave the school grounds. In the spring of 1944, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison (and their younger son, Carl) were able to return to America but had to leave Marjie and Jim behind, now prisoners of war.
This book recounts some of their struggles while imprisoned, including their time at Weihsien Prisoner of War Camp, where teacher Eric Liddell (whose story is told in Chariots of Fire) was also held. Soon after liberation of the camp by American troops at war's end, the entire Harrison family were finally, joyfully, reunited just in time for Christmas of 1945. The author of this book, Linda Ansel, realized the importance of recording Marjie's story for future generations in hope and prayer that others would be motivated to live a life dedicated to his service.
