Über diesen Titel

The city of the gods. Elantris once stood as the symbol of all that is beautiful. A sprawling metropolis of unrivaled grandeur, it was a symbol of power and strength, built to be as imposing as it was magnificent.

The only thing more glorious than the city itself was its inhabitants, godlike beings, with silvery skin and hair of the purest, flowing white. Able to create powerful magics with a mere wave of their hands, the Elantrians were able to heal mortal wounds and create any object they desired. To be an Elantrian was to be without sickness, without pain, and without want.

And anyone could become a god. Through a process known as the "Shaod", a normal person could go to bed one night and awake the next morning to throw away the shackles of mortality and become a being of incomparable power and grace. With Elantris as their beacon, the light inside all humanity was allowed to shine, elevating it to new heights.

But Elantris fell...10 years ago.

In most story's say books, TV shows or movies the twists are seen from miles away, but not in this one. I'm always having a hard time finding something really enjoyable but this was it.
I was actually in the midst of another book ( Michio Kaku's Quantum Supremacy) when I noticed Elantris. After checking up on it and noticing that most of Brandon Sanderson books are taking place in his Cosmere, I just had to listen in on Elantris. Now I've actually finished it before anything else.

Not everyone's favorite but certainly mine is Dilaf and his voice actor splendidly brought over this characters Charm (-;

Hrathen was also good but always plotting too much.

Galladon was a great character and friend + the voice acting was great.

Actually all the characters in Elantris with there voice actors were really enjoyable.

Highly recommend for anyone into the fantasy genre!

Really enjoyed this, it got some unexpected twists

Bit of a slow start but really picks up towards the end. Pleasant voices and professional sound effects.

Some good headphones are required though.. if you listen to it from phone speakers or similar, the background sounds can drown the narrator voices.

Overall recommended

Great story

Sometimes sound effects are louder than the dialogue/narration which made it difficult to follow

The narration is very good. It was truly like a movie in the mind

The narrator sounds like an AI voice and often blends with the background noise.
Many of the sounds in the background are poor in quality and poorly made, so much that they come across as a disturbance rather than enhancing the experience.

Great Story, poor adaption.

The story is told from three different perspectives. Only one, Raoden’s journey to rediscover the magic of Elantris (the mystery part of the story) could keep my interest. Whenever it gets interesting, it shifts to another perspective. The mystery just took way too long to be revealed, and often times new clues seemed to came out of nothing. Many events are predictable very early in the story and then take ages to develop - only to then be cramped into the last 15% of the book.

In the end, I still enjoyed this story. The pacing leaves something to be desired, but I am willing to look over it a bit, since the audiobook format leaves you to do something else while listening. I found the production of this audiobook to be very high quality.

Unsatisfactory Mystery

The graphic novel is designed well, voice acting is very good for the most part, but audio engineering and production leave to be desired. Many times the volume of background tracks overpowers the voice, and the sound selection/music is not the best. Still, great effort, making for an immersive experience of a thrilling story. The book has a fast pace, easy to follow, exciting plot, interesting characters.

Great adaptation of a great story

Leider war die Abmischung der Musik und Effekte sehr unausgeglichen. Dadurch konnte man an einigen Stellen die Sprecher*innen nicht so gut verstehen.

Interessanter Ansatz

It is a real drag though. You can tell that this is one of Brandon's earliest works, pacing is pretty rough in parts, most of the characters feel pretty flat, a solid 3rd of the first part feels like pure exposition dumping, and very little of it feels relevant. IF you can endure all of that though and get to the finale I'd say it's worth it though.

The Voice acting is pretty decent for the most part I'd say, though the sound balancing is pretty bad in parts. especially in big battle scenes you can have trouble hearing the voices over the background noise.

If you can drag yourself through to the end the payoff is fairly good.

Elantris is the book that put Brandon Sanderson on the map, and this great adaption done by GraphicAudio really does it justice. When it was first published in 2005, it was not an instant hit with critics. And look how wrong they were! Today, Sanderson is one of the big and influential fantasy writers, known especially for his intricate magic systems - a trait that already is at the core of his first book. The magical city of Elantris fell under a curse, and the land of Arelon it once ruled has hit hard times. The mysterious transformation that used to make spell-wielding gods known as the Shaod falls on Arelenes at random and leaves its victims half-dead husks, exiled to live in the ruined city. It's a gripping story, masterfully woven, and a dramatic adaptation that will pull you in if you love fantasy and clever magical systems.

The book that put Sanderson on the map

The start is a bit slow but it picks up pace steadily until the end. A prime example of „no and“ and „yes but“ through out the whole story.

Very immersive voice acting and sound effects. Although a few times the sound effects almost drown out the words.

Captivating story
