Delve into the mind of Critical Role's most charming villain in this original novel that chronicles Lucien's early life and his fateful meeting with the Mighty Nein.

Lucien has always been able to spin a bad situation to his advantage. From his childhood on the dangerous streets of Shadycreek Run to his years living off the grid and learning blood magic from the Claret Orders, the charismatic blood hunter will find a way to get the upper hand.

When Lucien is on a job in the frozen wastelands of Eiselcross with his fellow mercenaries, a rough-and-tumble crew called the Tombtakers, fate leads him to a mysterious journal in the ruins of an ancient city. The book speaks of the Somnovem, nine beings who can grant Lucien power beyond imagining—if he is able to find them and free them from captivity.

Intrigued by this opportunity, Lucien pores over the journal—but the more he reads, the stranger things become. The nine whisper to him in dreams and waking visions. Time slips away, along with Lucien's grasp on reality. And tattoos of red eyes begin appearing on his skin....

With the ability to reshape the world within his grasp, Lucien ignores all warning signs. He has always bent fortune to his will, and nothing—not even death—will stop him now.

Written by New York Times bestselling author Madeleine Roux, Critical Role: The Mighty Nein-The Nine Eyes of Lucien explores the meteoric rise and fall of one of Critical Role's most notorious and tragic figures.

I haven‘t finished C2 yet but just had to listen to this book. I loved every second of it! Can‘t wait to get the other side of the story with the campaign though.

Love it!!

This was an awesome book to listen to! The references to campaign two of critical role were very well done, not too much on the nose but still noticeable. But even without those the story would have been captivating! Good job ☺️

Better than expected!

mollymock was a mildly interesting Charakter at best. He died early and that was his saving grace. He was alright as an npc and interesting as the bbeg in the last arc of the secund Season of critical role.
Now we get his backstory. He gathers his Crew, they go from location to location, they gather the book, etc. During his journey He cheats and is an asshole. Everyone everywhere is an asshole. A trait that gets boring very fast. Some Character check the gender/ pronoun box and the Story meanders some more. In the end He will die at Level 3 to an random encounter.

a realy boring story

I couldn't wait for the next Critical Role book to come out - the first one was absolutely amazing. This one, however, didn't make ANY sense to me. It felt like it was all over the place. I was seriously wondering if the chapters got somehow mixed up, or if parts of the audiobook had gone missing. Then, after looking into this, I found that this is a supplemental story for everyone who's finished the - what, 500 hours long? - second Campaign of Critical Role, and wants to find out a bit more about the NPCs and what they've been up to in between their appearances on the show.
A bit of an "extended edition" or "deleted scenes" if I may use DVD vernacular. Now that's fine, but this should be made clear somewhere. I mean, those were five hours (then I gave up on the book) of scratching my head and doubting my sanity, which I'll never get back.

Huge Disappointment
