The gates have opened the way to a thousand new worlds, and the rush to colonise has begun. Settlers looking for a new life stream out from humanity's home planets. Illus, the first human colony on this vast new frontier, is being born in blood and fire. Independent settlers stand against the overwhelming power of a corporate colony ship with only their determination, courage, and the skills learned in the long wars of home. Innocent scientists are slaughtered as they try to survey a new and alien world.
James Holden and the crew of his one small ship are sent to make peace in the midst of war and sense in the heart of chaos. But the more he looks at it, the more Holden thinks the mission was meant to fail. And the whispers of a dead man remind him that the great galactic civilisation which once stood on this land is gone. And that something killed them.
Cibola Burn is the exhilarating fourth novel in the New York Times best-selling Expanse series, following the Hugo-nominated Leviathan Wakes, Caliban's War, and Abaddon's Gate.

According to mythology, mankind used to live in 'The Tranquiline Halls': heaven. But then the Voidbringers assaulted and captured heaven, casting out God and men. Men took root on Roshar, the world of storms, but the Voidbringers followed. The Almighty gave men powerful suits of armor and mystical weapons, the Shardblades. Led by 10 angelic Heralds and 10 orders of knights known as Radiants, mankind finally won (or so the legends say).

The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the Native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon came ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There went the good old days, when humans got killed only by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce - and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So, we fight, to defend Earth and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. It will be up to the team to bring back answers, and the consequences of this voyage will change everything. Grauenhafter Sprecher
Was genau hat Sie an Cibola Burn enttäuscht?
Person A erläutert etwas, Person B antwortet mit "But?", wartet also auf das "Aber".

Hurraaaaa... wieder Jefferson Mays
Würden Sie Cibola Burn noch mal anhören? Warum?

Terrible narrator
Not a fan of the narrator, but once you get used to it, it's quite enjoyable. Story is at times a bit slow, the climax not as interesting as I hoped but my guess is, that it mostly sets up stuff for the next books.

Just skip this one...
The painfully predictable plot moves at a snail's pace and the characters are... just plain silly. The antagonist of this novel is a massively cliche character who reminds me more of a cartoon villain than a believable human being. All characters, and I mean absolutely every single one, acts like an idiot at just about every turn to an infuriating degree. I am 16h in as I am writing this and I am not sure if I will finish the book. The new POV characters also lack the soul and uniqueness of those from the earlier novels. The first three novels were brilliant and among my favourite sci-fi novels that I've ever read (or, in this case, heard), but this one certainly is not. I would genuinely recommend skipping this title entirely and just reading a plot summary instead. So far, Cibola Burn was a big waste of time and there have barely even been any overarching plot developments for the series as a whole 80% in.
