"Narrator Paul Sparks's performance is so perfect it challenges the listener to stop listening. Sure—just TRY to turn it off! Sparks is fantastic, whether he's giving voice to a fat Mafioso called Pig or a young rape victim who turns to Billy for help or the other colorful characters from King's work. While Billy's character is a tad far-fetched, it fits the definition of antihero—think Showtime's Dexter. And because the story is told in the first person, listeners see the decent person inside the man with blood on his hands."

Um Stephen King habe ich immer einen großen Bogen gemacht, da ich mit Horror und übernatürlichem Zeug nichts anfangen kann. Aber das hier ist eine brilliante Geschichte, die mehrere Handlungsstränge perfekt ineinander verwebt, unaufgeregt erzählt, aber superspannend, voller Überraschungen und gar nicht vorhersehbar.

Und ich dachte, Stephen King könne nur Horror...

I nearly didn't listen to it, because people were saying the narrator was bad. That is not true. This is one of the best narrators i have ever listened to. He is not a bland narrator but a true performer full of character and melancholy. Just like the story.

As for the story it self: It's good and expertly written. It's about Billy, who is lost and you will wish for him to be found.

Stephen King at his best. A great novel which weaves together the lives of a hitman becoming a writer, a young girl escaping near death and a story so intricate, that you won’t be able to put it down.

Its a great read read/listen even though it has a weaker 2nd half in my opinion.
