Sadly just a so so, once more

Well, it’s still King; meaning it’s entertaining enough. However, I really have issues with the character development. As example a kid, who is introduced as a very powerful telepath but at the same time immature even for his age of 10.
Suddenly however, this one is behaving in a overly mature way - more or less just out of the blue.
All in all, the book seems rushed (despite its length) and somehow fragmented. Don’t really know how to put it otherwise.
If you like King and have no issues with let’s say The Arena (which I found really weak), you may well enjoy this one, too.
If you are looking for another classic by SK you might be disappointed.

An almost familiar story

Kind of get the feeling that Stephen King spent most of his time preparing to write this book by watching Stranger Things.
The story of the institute itself had a very familiar feel too it.
Not the best narrations ever, some listeners will find him annoying.

No Stephen King fan should miss this one

Once upon a time it was Dinky Earnshaw who killed people remotely he was pointed to by a man who hired him. And that short story came to mind listening to this book. Then there was The Firestarter created by secret ecperiments and unleashed by the short sighted attempt to contain that secret. Stehpen King took those elements to the next level and made this book one of his finest stories in my opinion. The monsters in this story are far too real and who is to say there aren't any Institutes like it somewhere?

Sehr gutes King Buch. Erinnerte mich sehr an "Firestarter". Nur der Vorleser könnte etwas besser sein.

…großartig erzählt, eine klasse Kombination aus Spannung und Emotion! Ein Pageturner - wäre es kein Hörbuch ;-)

Okish written, uncreative story and boring ending

The story is extremely shallow, the characters are often out of character and the core message the book wants to transmit is not delivered very well.
My first and certainly last King novel. Not recommended unless you seek very shallow entertainment.

Another hit that makes you think

This is another great book by Stephen King. He keeps you engaged the entire time, really makes you think and brings everything full circle.

With the state of the world and the lengths humanity will go to be cruel and destroy, all in the name of “saving the world”, you can’t help but wonder. This story brings a new and disturbing light to situations we may think are impossible, or unlikely, but what you need to remember is that just because you might not believe in something, there’s plenty others that might and act on those beliefs. Just look at religion.

Good

A solid story, well told. If it wouldn't be for the returning cheap, one-sided political statements and slogan placements. One would think such are below a great author with such high emotional intelligence like King, but sadly not.

The story overall is entertaining enough and comes with characters that are easy to fall in love with. And even the problematic characters are not necessarily all darkness, because King will sometimes shine a light on their past and how they got to where they are.

The narrator is excellent, but apparently the audio director was asleep at the wheel sometimes in the 2nd half, when the narrator speaks in the voice of the protagonists, even though the text only talks about them, while they're not having actual dialogue. It's noticable because it doesn't happen for more than half the book.

Pretty good story

As with many stories by Stephen King, The Institute is another nail biting tale read by a very talented Santino Fontana, whose range of voices give the many characters a believable rendition.
