Stephen King is a genius storyteller who forms so seemingly easy interesting characters! The story is quiet simple- after the superflu has killed most of the US population, for the survivors the struggle between good and evil begins. This simple storyline isn‘t that interesting, but the protagonists are described exceptionally great and affectionately that you can‘t stop reading. Loved the book! Great recommendation! Will keep the characters for a long time in mind...

Most underrated Storyteller (no horror included)

Grover Gardner macht seine Sache sehr gut. Durch die Akzentimmitation weiß man genau welche Person gerade spricht und seine Darstellung von Randel Flag ist ihm super gelungen. Es war wirklich ein Vergnügen dieser Stimme etliche Stunden zu lauschen.

King ist ein genialer Erzähler, Grover Gardner ein genialer Sprecher, es macht einfach nur Spass, zuzuhören und dabei zu sein. Was ich, im Gegensatz zu anderen, bei The Stand bemängle ist, dass die Story doch sehr dünn ist. Viele Dinge machen schlussendlich nicht mal Sinn, zum Beispiel die "Wallfahrt" von Stu, Glen, Ralph und Larry nach Vegas. Auch die Intention, Spione zu schicken hat auf die eigentliche Story keinen Einfluss, oder? Dazu finde ich persönlich das Finale im Vergleich zum Umfang des Buches gradezu plötzlich und erbärmlich klein. Ein fulminantes Finale wie bei IT gibt es leider bei The Stand nicht. Zag, Bumm, aus die Maus.

Super Erzählung aber sehr dünne Story

Nachdem ich The Stand bisher nur aus dem Fernsehen kannte und keine Ambitionen hatte, das Buch zu lesen, nachdem mich eine Freundin vor dessen Langatmigkeit gewarnt hatte, hab ich mich sehr gefreut, dass es das Hörbuch gibt!

Noch dazu handelt es sich um eine von Stephen King nach der Erstveröffentlichung überarbeitete, ausführlichere Version des Buches (Genaueres erklärt der Autor im Vorwort). Dennoch fand ich die Geschichte sehr spannend und überhaupt nicht langatmig.

Grover Gardner liest sehr gut vor. Erstens spricht er verständlich, zweitens kommt er authentisch rüber und drittens verleiht er den Hauptpersonen ausreichend Charakter ohne sie zu vereinnahmen.
