It's strange to have a King without an open end. The plot is very complicated playing in the past, the past before past, and the present and started being boring. It took me some efforts to get through the beginning. But the book gains speed in the second half and even includes a psychopath who nonetheless does not play a very central role. Really annoying was the use of song titles and singers never heard of outside the USA before.

A very suspenseful read, the book hooked me from the beginning. It is the story of a widow, coping with the loss of her husband. In the course of the book she tells about her marriage, her husband, his childhood. An excellent Stephen King novel, if not his best to date. Mare Winningham does an wonderful job of narrating, giving not only the various characters in the novel distinctly different voices but also mastering the sometimes very different dialects of the characters.

Highly recommended! An amazing, imaginative story with deep roots in reality about love, mental health and family ties. And an outstanding performance by the the narrator.
