An older, more mature story by JI. Still loaded with sex but far away from this coming of age complications. It is easy to lose track and you wonder when did this person appear? or how did we get there? I'm sure this is exactly what JI was going for. A must read for JI fans but not necessairly as the first JI book.

A must for Irving fans.

John Irvings Bücher sind für mich ein Genuss. Dieses habe ich in Originalsprache hören wollen. Es hat sich gelohnt. Manches sprachliche Bild klingt nur im Englischen gut (zum Beispiel "dump reader" versus " Müllkippenleser").
Die Stimme des Sprechers ist angenehm und seine Variationen für die einzelnen Personen lockern das Hörerlebnis auf. Nur Lupe hört sich für mich nicht richtig an. Aber das liegt in der Natur der Dinge: ein Mann kann halt schlecht ein 13jähriges Mädchen intonieren.
Die Geschichte ist verrückt, wie immer. Aber es bringt einem die sogenannten Außenseiter näher, als Menschen wie du und ich, mit allen Stärken und Schwächen.
Insgesamt ein gelungenes Hörerlebnis. Auch ein nicht ganz so perfekt Englisch verstehender sollte es probieren!
