Wood’s delivery makes Mark Twain’s delicious wit and twisty language sound completely natural, especially as Huck invents plausible words to suit the moment. The journey down the Mississippi with Huck and Jim is pure pleasure, as the boy who won’t be "sivilized" and the runaway slave encounter scoundrels, slip out of scrapes, and invent outrageous tales. This book is a classic for a reason! It shows how racism is learned, and that we’re all free human beings, regardless of the colour of our skin. It’s funny, witty, suited both for children and adults. Elijah’s performance is one of a kind and is definitely worth the listen, even for his voice alone!

Even if you don’t like the story, you have to hear this book for Elijah’s outstanding performance.

By far best audiobook performance

The story is well known and one of the most epic road (or river) trips. What really sets this version apart from the numerous other editions, is the absolutely stunning performance of the narrator. Wood manages to make the characters and the river come alive. The accents and speaking mannerisms are spot on and transports the listener right besides Huck and Jim on their raft floating down the Mississippi.
