.........................
Dr Briana Ortiz's life is seriously flatlining. Her divorce is just about finalised, her brother's running out of time to find a kidney donor, and that promotion she wants . . . ? Oh, that's probably going to the new man-doctor who's already registering eighty-friggin'-seven on Briana's 'pain in my ass' scale.
But just when all systems are set to hate, Dr Jacob Maddox completely flips the game . . . by sending Briana a letter. It's a really good letter. Like the kind that proves that Jacob isn't actually Satan. Worse, he might be this fantastically funny and subversively likeable guy who's terrible at first impressions. Because suddenly he and Bri are exchanging letters, sharing lunch dates in her 'sob closet' and discussing the merits of freakishly tiny horses.
When Jacob turns out to be the perfect donor for her brother, Bri starts to realise that this quietly sexy new doctor might just be her perfect match, too.
Thank you so much.
And Abby: all the best wishes for you!
Great book

Female narrator sounded a bit flat and wooden unfortunately.

It’s my second Abby Jimenez book - but so far all mental problems are so real and so perfectly mirrored, and all villains are redeemable. Loved it!
So beautiful

I even loved the first part. But then there is so much "he loves someone else" and "all men are the same" and this ongoing i will never trust again even they were so happy. It's too much. So the first 60 percent are 5 stars and the last 20 percent 2 stars.
Nice characters

Jacob was such an interesting love interest because he wasn’t the kind of 6’4 strong macho with a dead mom or something, which we’ve read about in scores. He’s a sweet, strong, selfless guy with social anxiety and to be honest I found the chapters written from his perspective really educating on the condition.
The next axis of this story is Briana’s brother’s chronic kidney disease and his need for an organ donor, which turned out to be surprisingly personal to the author since she herself was diagnosed with a kidney disease in 2020 and miraculously was able to combat the disease with drugs, though a transplant could very likely have been her only hope, had she been diagnosed a little later. It was heartbreaking to see what that kind of illness does to the patient and to their loved ones. And omg I cried to much when Jacob turned out to be a perfect donor, to feel how great of a gift an organ can be.
Now back to the romance: I loved their chemistry, the letters, the sweetness and tenderness. How both of these characters had to let themselves fall in love. Of course the fake dating trope is kind of a classic, but let’s be honest, we all love it, especially when it’s well done. The only thing that annoyed me was the misunderstanding that of course had to draw out the conclusion of them finally getting together. I was sooo frustrated and Briana was being an idiot, but I guess it made them finally speaking openly and confessing their love even better.
The ending was surprising to be honest, there was a whole other twist in there I did not expect. A very educating and heartbreaking twist, which made me feel so much on behalf on both Jacob and Briana. Generally choosing someone to build a life with, to give all of yourself to, is not an easy choice, it’s scary how vulnerable that makes you and Briana especially had all reason to be scared as shit after that divorce. I won’t say exactly how the story was concluded but it was all in all just blazing green flags left and right.
This story is more than funny, sweet and swoon-worthy, it was heartfelt, tender and real somehow, real in a way I had not anticipated. This is actually a romance novel you can learn something from, that can change your perspective and make you a better, braver and more considerate person in many ways.
Would absolutely recommend.
Wonderfully frustrating
