Inhaltsangabe

From number one New York Times best-selling author Brandon Sanderson, Words of Radiance, audiobook two of the Stormlight Archive, continues the immersive fantasy epic that The Way of Kings began.

Expected by his enemies to die the miserable death of a military slave, Kaladin survived to be given command of the royal bodyguards, a controversial first for a low-status "darkeyes". Now he must protect the king and Dalinar from every common peril as well as the distinctly uncommon threat of the Assassin, all while secretly struggling to master remarkable new powers that are somehow linked to his honorspren, Syl.

The Assassin, Szeth, is active again, murdering rulers all over the world of Roshar, using his baffling powers to thwart every bodyguard and elude all pursuers. Among his prime targets is Highprince Dalinar, widely considered the power behind the Alethi throne. His leading role in the war would seem reason enough, but the Assassin’s master has much deeper motives.

Brilliant but troubled Shallan strives along a parallel path. Despite being broken in ways she refuses to acknowledge, she bears a terrible burden: to somehow prevent the return of the legendary Voidbringers and the civilization-ending Desolation that will follow. The secrets she needs can be found at the Shattered Plains, but just arriving there proves more difficult than she could have imagined.

Meanwhile, at the heart of the Shattered Plains, the Parshendi are making an epochal decision. Hard pressed by years of Alethi attacks, their numbers ever shrinking, they are convinced by their war leader, Eshonai, to risk everything on a desperate gamble with the very supernatural forces they once fled. The possible consequences for Parshendi and humans alike, indeed, for Roshar itself, are as dangerous as they are incalculable.

perfect sequel

Seldomly have I anticipated a sequel as much as this one. The story is exciting. The characters very in depth. The whole world is creative. Finaly something new in fantasy. Can't wait for the next part.

You want epic, than you wnat this

I will not go into plot details, if you want them then check out the hunderts of reviews on goodreads. But as for the audiobook experience, if you want a good narrative performed bye awesome voices, than you should get this. "Word of Radience" is a wonderfully executed epic story for your ears. Michael Kramer and Kate Reading are adding to they great performace from "Wheel of Time". No Minute that you spend listening to this story is vasted.

A grand disappointment

After 80 audio books with something like 2 months of playtime, this is has been the first book that I could not finish. This review / rant probably contains spoilers. After the engaging world building in the first chapter, I was curious about the follow up. I'll make it short. The biggest point of contention about this book is the character development and Kate Readings performance. In the first book, Shallan comes across like an Antonie Buddenbrook character. However, that is not the path that Sanderson chooses for her. Instead, she evolves into something like the ultimate Sailor Moon girl power fantasy, while every single unbearably stupid and unredeemable character trait of hers gets exaggerated by Reading's performance. As a side note, the way she does male voices does not help a bit. Kaladin developes into something like the archetype of the angsty anime hero character. If this is something that turns you off in stories, do not touch this book. In Words of Radiance, Sanderson will spend hours over hours on convoluted side plots that are quite foreseeable in their development, while also glancing over seemingly huge developments in something like under a page. Shallan birthing her fully sentient pokemon spirit (with it's own incredibly annoying voice), Shallan summoning a shard-blade and Kaladin learning to fly...these are things that just happen with barely any buildup. What finally broke me is when suddenly a new character appears ("Lift"), who is also the embodiment of Sailor Moon power fantasy, together with her own stupidly voiced pokemon spirit. After hearing the phrase "Lift summoned her Awesomeness" about 5 times in 10 minutes, my eyes glazed over and I deleted the files from my phone.

The only fkup, in my option, is the female reader. Siri could do it better.
