I was unsettled by Sri Lanka's gruesome civil war that feels even more gruesome by the almost laconic way it forms the backdrop of Maali Alameda's life. I was unsettled by my complete ignorance of this gruesomeness, too. I was touched by the tenderness of Maali Almeida's personal relationships that are such a strong contrast to this baseline cruel backdrop. I was gripped by the quest to find out the truth about his death. At the same time, an ever present pinch of subtle irony makes a strange and beautiful counterpoint to all this depth.
Shivantha Wijesinha narrates the book in a kindred way to the author's art.
There are not many books I consider listening to twice. The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida is one that's absolutely worth it!

I very much enjoyed the book and loved the performance. The reader switches effortlessly between voices and accents and really brings the story to life.
