While Royce’s character development was interesting, the book spent a lot of time on Hilfried, who felt like a bit of a frustrating character to follow. Especially after having read revelations, his story arch felt like it lacked suspense as we know of his backstory already. So the half of the book devoted to him was more tragic and a bit tedious. I still enjoyed the book, but all other books from this universe have set a very high standard, making this one stand out negatively. Of course the writing style is still very entertaining, and many characters that we love are there. The tragic nature of this book is however in contrast with all others.
