His origins are shrouded in mystery, but his exploits are known throughout the Heterarchy - from breaking into the vast Zeusbrains of the Inner System to steal their thoughts, to stealing rare Earth antiques from the aristocrats of the Moving Cities of Mars. Except that Jean made one mistake. Now he is condemned to play endless variations of a game-theoretic riddle in the vast virtual jail of the Axelrod Archons - the Dilemma Prison - against countless copies of himself. Jean's routine of death, defection and cooperation is upset by the arrival of Mieli and her spidership, Perhonen.

Half of it is whispered and difficult to understand unless you turn the volume up. But then the first half is too loud. Really annoying.

I bought this book once more as an audio book having enjoyed the paper years years before.
I appreciate Degas performance, and no doubt that many will enjoy this reading by him, however an earlier version exists in which Scott Brick is the narrator, which I enjoyed far better.
The different voices in this version are alright, the special effects are very grating, which feels more appropriate for a young kids book, and very much doubt this appeal to very young ones.

Conclusion: great listen, different narrator please, preferably Scott Brick

keine Ahnung worum es wirklich geht, die Produktion - nicht Mel der Sprecher an sich - unsinnig langsames pacing und stimmberzerrennmachen es beinahe unmöglich zu folgen. Einfach das Buch vorlesen, fertig.

A lot of work obviously went into the production of this Audiobook, it is all the more unfortunate that in the end, I find it incredibly hard to follow the book: the enunciation of the narrator makes it hard to understand every second word, a problem I have not had with any Audiobook yet. Also a some (at least one) of the voice over effects are quite jarring and make it even harder to understand the narrator. Form what I can tell the writing is quite fascinating but the constant strain to understand things just kills it for me.
