Random House presents the audiobook edition of The President Is Missing by President Bill Clinton and James Patterson, read by Dennis Quaid, January LaVoy, Peter Ganim, Jeremy Davidson, and Mozhan Marno, with an extract read by Bill Clinton.
The President is missing.
The world is in shock.
But the reason he’s missing is much worse than anyone can imagine.
With details only a President could know, and the kind of suspense only James Patterson can deliver.
Kritikerstimmen
"The dream team delivers big time...Clinton’s insider secrets and Patterson’s storytelling genius make this the political thriller of the decade." (Lee Child)
"I felt like I was right along with the characters for the shocking twists and turns you’ll never guess are coming. Patterson and Clinton have created a truly unique character in their ‘missing’ President. The President Is Missing puts the listener inside the White House and inside the mind of a President grappling with extraordinary circumstances." (Dennis Quaid)
"Yes, The President Is Missing is fiction - it’s a thriller - but James Patterson and I have come up with three of the most frightening days in the history of the presidency. And it could really happen...These days, the seemingly impossible can happen. And it happens so fast. I believe that readers will not soon forget President Jonathan Duncan and his story." (Bill Clinton)

Interesting scenario, execution painful.
The scenario in itself is not bad and pushed me to finish the book. The real purpose of the book is to promote political qualities and to demonstrate how politics have evolved in the US. A good message in addition to an interesting plot. Now the bad news:
1. The plot is overly simplistic even if our reliance on IT and the Internet is scary.
2. The political message is fair and worth communicating. It feels a bit evangelical and maybe naive.
3. The reader is overdoing it. I admire readers, they are real actors and I honor their talent. In this case, Dennis Quaid went a bit over the top and distracted from the book.
All in all, two stars, a little bit harsh on both writer and reader in order to caution future readers that this is not such a great experience.

Gut, manche Sachen nerven.

Was okay. a tad too patriotic. To end it with "God bless America and all who call it home" - killed it too much.

Nightmare averted
The basic idea of this story is a nightmare that is -of course- averted in the end. The interesting parts are what the President of the story says, his political and almost philosophical thoughts, as well as his last statement before Congress. I assume that the President in the story is the mouthpiece of Bill Clinton. I find the warnings and the political ideas very topical in light of the current situation in the US. I wish more politicians shared these views. The fictitious President's statements also fit in perfectly with a book I just finished and that I can only recommend to anybody interested in US politics. The title is 'How Democracies Die'.

The story is sound but the end is rather weak and somewhat predictable. Still an entertaining, sometimes thrilling book - get it used in the paperback version to save money!

Never heard a worser book from James Patterson
This was like my tenth book of the author and I didn't even recognised it as such. Horrible story, overly patriotic and bad reading. Seems he allowed to much influence from his cowriter.
