One of the 20th century's most challenging novels of ideas, The Fountainhead champions the cause of individualism through the story of a gifted young architect who defies the tyranny of conventional public opinion. The struggle for personal integrity in a world that values conformity above creativity is powerfully illustrated through three characters: Howard Roarke, the genius who is resented because he creates purely for the delight of his own work and on no other terms; Gail Wynand, the newspaper mogul and self-made millionaire whose power was bought by sacrificing his ideals to the lowest common denominator of public taste; and Dominique Francon, the devastating beauty whose desperate search for meaning has been twisted, through despair, into a quest to destroy the single object of her desire: Howard Roarke. Dramatic, poetic, and demanding, The Fountainhead remains one of the towering books on the contemporary intellectual scene.©1943 The Bobbs-Merrill Company; 1968 Ayn Rand; 1993 Leonard Peikoff (P)1994 Blackstone Audio Inc. Kritikerstimmen

"Ayn Rand is a writer of great power. She has a subtle and ingenious mind and the capacity of writing brilliantly, beautifully, bitterly." ( New York Times Book Review)

Any Rand has a very clear idea about using ones own life meaningfully. This book is thought provoking but uses great arguments and examples to show how two different lifestyles are leading to happiness or dependence. I like this book because I could gain a new viewpoint on what success is and how to use this life. Big recommendation for anyone who wants to become rich and powerful! ;-)

Time to rethink your motivation

Extraordinarily inspiring. This book teaches happiness, independance, masculinity and integrity by example like nothing else. A pity most people can't look past Rand's politics, if there's one book I would recommend to every human on earth it would be this one. A gripping story too, and an excellent narrator.
I relisten to it every year and end inspired and reinvigorated, similarly to the novel's own characters that meet - and understand - Howard Roark.

Greatest book I've ever read

Real stuff starts only after 200 pages. Though I had the book since ten years, I never passed first 100 pages and thought another cheesy love story. I did not realise what I missed all these years.. A perspective! A very different perspective.. it's amazing to see a completely different definition of Ego... Really enjoyed every page of it. a must read for everyone.

Incredible!

I love this book. Ayn Rand is one of the great authors comparable to Dostoyewsky. Also very, very well read.

Essentiell für mich 10 Stars

The pompose end of a sweet story with too much advertising the individualism. Some very good philosophical parts but put too extreme.

Great narrator. Story too black and white.
