“Welcome to the family,” Nina Winchester says as I shake her elegant, manicured hand. I smile politely, gazing around the marble hallway. Working here is my last chance to start fresh. I can pretend to be whoever I like. But I’ll soon learn that the Winchesters’ secrets are far more dangerous than my own....

Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor.

I try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband, Andrew, seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew’s handsome brown eyes, so full of pain, it’s hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina’s life. The walk-in closet, the fancy car, the perfect husband.

I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out...and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late.

But I reassure myself: The Winchesters don’t know who I really am.

Brain numbing, psychotic and gripping. To believe that human’s can actually act this way is terrifying! There is an unexpected turn in this boo. A must listen to it if you enjoy psycho thriller stories.

I find it challenging to explain, but having previously read "The Last Mrs. Parrish" by Liv Constantine, which came out before this book, I noticed striking similarities. While not an exact replica, the predictability became apparent around two-thirds into the story, making it somewhat slow and tiring to read. As a result, I gave it a three-star rating. However, since this is my first time reading Freida McFadden's work, I'm willing to give her another chance.

The book was engaging and easy to follow, though the plot felt somewhat predictable from the beginning. While I anticipated many of the twists, the storytelling still drew me in and kept me invested in the characters and their journey. A bit more unpredictability or complexity in the narrative could have elevated it further.

ok,but not worth the hype

Interesting plot but foreseeable plottwist which was kinda basic. Though I did enjoy the narrator switch and jumps in time where there was a backstory. Not enough backstories though, in the end it seemed quick and I would’ve wished for more details. But overall the ending seemed very interesting and had a another "plottwist" which again was foreseeable.

Einzigartige Story und tolle Vorlesung mit vielfältigen Wechsel. Sehr angenehm der Vorleserin zuzuhören. Ich bin auf den nächsten Teil gespannt.
