This is not a cheerful greeting and certainly marks an inauspicious beginning to a very bleak story just as we have come to expect from Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, the deliciously morbid set of books that began with The Bad Beginning and only got worse.

Dieses Buch der Series of Unfortunate Events hat mir bisher absolut am besten gefallen. Vor allem, dass in diesem Band zum ersten Mal andere Kinder auftauchen, die noch dazu ein ähnliches Schicksal mit den Baudelaire-Orphans teilen, macht die Geschichte sehr packend. Einziger Minuspunkt ist, dass die Geschichte sehr vorhersehbar ist.

...glänzt! Obwohl das Schema der worst case events gleich bleibt und man zunehmend mit den Boudelaires leidet, für den Hörer bleibt es mehr als unterhaltsam.

I love the story and Lemony Snicket as an author but as speaker he is not able to express the different voices of his protagonists as good as Tim Curry. All voices sound mostly the same/ a bit boring. In addition to that the speaking is very unbalanced, sometimes way too loud, sometimes way too low, really hard to listen to -not in longer phases so that a regulation in volume would make sense, but within sentences. As I chose this series of books to listen in the gym (where there is background music) this is very annoying. I'm looking forward getting Tim Curry back as a speaker. In contrast to the last books read by Lemony Snicket, the sound is a little bit better balanced.
