The two Main characters have a lot of depth and developement to them, the side charakters are interesting and even the villan is somewhat complex. The plot is unusual, fantastical and full of longing, suspense and wonder. Absolutely lovely story, not a dull moment in sight, i really hope there will be a second book!

This book here strangely resembled The Magpie Lord from KJ Charles (I really liked that book too).

Anyways, here the cover is awful (that picture, really! it scared me off from choosing to listen to this book, for months!).
But I was so bored that I started, plus I like Joel Leslie, and yey!

The book is great, really good stroy, strong characters, a good fantasy/mistery mix, the romance is nice and all feelings and developments believable. At the same time enough drama and the story never gets boring. And you cannot really figure out where it will go, so it always has some new surprises until the end.

I was insanely happy to see there was an audio version for Salt Magic, Skin Magic available, since I had enjoyed the book immensely. The audiobook did not disappoint, it was very enjoyable to listen to John and Soren's story again. Joel Leslie's narration is very good and brings the characters (including those made of iron and other stuff) to life.

I love the magic system and would really like to read more books in this universe. Highly recommended.
