Her life is so full, so why is she hungry?

For Piglet – an unshakable childhood nickname – getting married is her opportunity to reinvent. Together, Kit and Piglet are the picture of domestic bliss – effortless hosts, planning a covetable wedding ... But if a life looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Thirteen days before they are due to be married, Kit reveals an awful truth, cracking the façade Piglet has created. It has the power to strip her of the life she has so carefully built, so smugly shared. To do something about it would be to self-destruct. But what will it cost her to do nothing?

As the hours count down to their ‘big day’, Piglet is torn between a growing appetite and the desire to follow the recipe, follow the rules. Surely, with her husband, she could be herself again. Wouldn’t it be a waste for everything to curdle now?

Piglet is the searing, unforgettable and original debut which is set to take listeners by storm in 2024.

Kritikerstimmen

‘It takes audacity, all kinds of courage to produce a novel as ferocious and weird as Piglet. The narrative accelerates like nothing else I've read, opening onto dead-end domestic conformity and then driving us all the way out into the wildernesses, where the possibility for liberation, the fulfilment of desires might be discovered. It made me so hungry’ Lamorna Ash, author of Dark, Salt, Clear

‘A high-wire exploration of control, pleasure and desire’ Chloë Ashby

‘A book that tears at the surface of things to reveal the vast, messy truth of a body with a beating heart’ Catherine Newman

Fifty shades of disturbing, really weird but also so raw and real. Finding yourself through a mental breakdown. This book made me feel like i am going crazy, I devoured this book and now I’m hungry.

Disturbing

Immensely pleasurable from start to finish. The author is meticulous in her choice of words and nearly always bang on. Listening to the descriptions of Piglet thinking about food is almost as satisfying as eating her cooking must be. Food is a powerful symbol for so many things: for indulgence and (loss of) control, for need, greed, and the purest expression of love and care. As such, its relationship to self-esteem is complex and sticky, especially for women, and Hazell doesn't shy away from any of it. She is unflinching yet full of empathy, and though I personally couldn't imagine a setting less interesting or exciting to me than the final days before a wedding, she had me squirming in my seat and covering my eyes as the story propelled to its inevitable conclusion.

A feast
