It turns out that the supernatural is real, but at 30, Callum has no desire to be part of that secret. This review is for all four books of this story.

The MC is reasonably clever, the characters fairly likable, and I'm all on board with hating on bureaucracy, however, the one big flaw of this story is that instead of exploring mutual aid, and non-hierarchical ways to organize society, it keeps handwaving the same problems that made the bad guys the bad guys for the good guys, and giving a fairly strong right wing libertarian vibe, down to the good guys declaring a non-aggression-pact at some point, which is classic right wing libertarian nonsense.

If that's a deal breaker for you, this isn't for you. If it's not, it's a good way to kill a few hours.

The story is really interesting and unique. While I did listen to a few urban fantasy Audiobooks such as "Storm Front: The Dresden Files" I often don't like them as much as other fantasy subgenres mostly because they are often mixed with other genres that I don't enjoy as much in a fantasy setting such as romance or mystery. This one is pure fantasy and its good fantasy well crafted and enjoyable.
The narration could be better in some places. I like it if the Narration is more organic but honestly that's just a bit of nitpicking because I don't have anything else even remotely negative.

I will definitely continue this series.

Love the story; solid urban fantasy

...für mich einfach zuviel Theorie, herumstolpern und etwas zu wenig Action.

Die erdachte Welt ist gut und scheint nicht imba zu sein.

Es scheint kein größeres Ziel zu geben, mal von Freiheit und Überlebenskampf abgesehen, was ich etwas schade finde.

Hoffe, dass es im 2. Teil etwas mehr anziehen wird.

A pretty good story with fresh takes on the usual tropes of the genre. It features a fairly interesting magic system, though as usual, the MC seems to get the best picks. There's still quite a bit of clever problem solving though. The world building seems fairly solid overall and is a strong point of the book.

The pacing is very enjoyable with major events unrolling pretty fast. The characters are overall very likable and easy to distinguish, though not necessarily memorable.
The MC is a bit bland at times. Occasionally he comes across as somewhat murderous and while I certainly wouldn't have wanted a full blown emotional crisis about what he does, a bit more reflection on the events might have made him more relatable.

The tone of the book is rather serious with a lot of straight-to-business dialogues, especially in the first half. That's great for the pacing but doesn't make things particularly memorable. The second half was better in that regard with a bit of humor sprinkled in where it fits.

The voice acting was okay but not exceptional. Sometimes the performer tries a bit too hard while at other times there'd be room for a bit more excitement. Tbf, I might have heard too many actually great voice actors lately. Frazier is still among the better ones, I'd say.

Solid Urban Fantasy

Honestly i don't know where to start. This whole series is brilliant, and keeps getting better with every book.
The whole pretext of a guy running from the state is nothing new but with the twist of magic involved the whole series is turned up a notch.

The whole book is action packed leaves deep thoughts and just makes you smile with a clever MC and inventive use of his magic.

Jeremy Frazier also did a good Job you could clearly distinct every character and i had no audio issues.

This story is full of loop holes. You have a self insert protagonist, who learns about magic at the age of 30. For some reason however he is the best at everything.
The writing is not great, the conversations between characters are bad and there is no real tension to be felt.
