One afternoon - after another failed attempt to get motivated to exercise - I (accidentally) started my first mini habit. I initially committed to do one push-up, and it turned into a full workout. I was shocked. This "stupid idea" wasn't supposed to work. I was shocked again when my success with this strategy continued for months (and to this day). I had to consider that maybe I wasn't the problem in those 10 years of mediocre results. Maybe it was my prior strategies that were ineffective, despite being oft-repeated as "the way to change" in countless books and blogs.
I was right.
Is there a scientific explanation for this?
As I sought understanding, I found a plethora of scientific studies that had answers, with nobody to interpret them correctly. Based on the science - which you'll find peppered throughout Mini Habits - we've been doing it all wrong.
You can succeed without the guilt, intimidation, and repeated failure associated with such strategies as "getting motivated," New Year's Resolutions, or even "just doing it." In fact, you need to stop using those strategies if they aren't giving you great results. They don't work because they all require you to fight against your subconscious brain (a fight not easily won). It's only when you start playing by your brain's rules and taking your human limitations seriously--as mini habits show you how to do - that you can achieve lasting change.

Repetitive and not too well written, but valuable
Very well read, except somtimes a little over-accentuated for my taste. The concept of mini habits has really become very valuable to me. It still takes some effort and discipline, but after a few months I still feel it really works. I still have not found the perfect tracking app (Strides is ok), but that's a whole other story.
The biggest flaws of this book are its repetitiveness and lack of structure. It is literally exclusively the "one push-up challenge" and "writing 50 words a day" over and over again. Other examples are hardly mentioned. Funny enough: at some points you can still somehow feel how the author was forcing himself to squeeze out another few lines. But, of course, with an audiobook, repetitiveness could of course also be seen as a feature; it really forces you to remember things at least. One thing the author missed to repeat is the single most important habit to me: actually keeping track of your habits.
I definitely had the impression that not too much thought was put into the structure of the work. Chapters are dedicated to different aspects, but I had the feeling that similar ideas pop up a little randomly. Overall I was missing a red thread.
Edit: Recently I came across James Clear's "Atomic Habits", which provides a much more general and better structured account of strategies around habit formation, but does touch the (imho essential) miniaturization aspect only briefly.

more than you thought
the author tells his story and grows all his knowledge out of it. this book starts Mini... turns out to be a real giant. buy it it won't disappoint you.

Viele Wiederholungen
Sinnvolle Tricks zum Festigen von sog. Mini Habits. Die Regeln sind einfach und klar verständlich erklärt. Allerdings wiederholt sich der Autor oft. Trotzdem sehr hörenswert.

would have been a good short blogpost
nice idea to find the smallest viable version of a habit, use willpower to power through implementing it in your live. 'read one page of a book everyday', force yourself to do this even if you are not motivated on that day. habit will form.
the other hours of this book just repeat and make friendly wordplays.
