I loved Celeste Ng's Everything I Never Told You, so when I found out she was releasing a new novel, I immediately called dibs on the advance copy (sorry team!). Little Fires Everywhere is set in an idyllic town in Ohio in the '90s. We're introduced to Elena, the matriarch of the Richardson family - a picture-perfect family with strong ties to the community. When Mia, a struggling artist, and her 15-year-old daughter move in to one of the split houses the Richardsons own, an infatuation (or you could call it an obsession) develops between the two families, and the line between the tenant-landlord relationship is crossed. Narrator Jennifer Lim makes her Audible debut with Little Fires Everywhere, and I can’t wait to hear what she does next. —Laura, Audible Editor

“To say I love this book is an understatement. It’s a deep psychological mystery about the power of motherhood, the intensity of teenage love, and the danger of perfection. It moved me to tears.” (Reese Witherspoon)

“I am loving Little Fires Everywhere. Maybe my favorite novel I've read this year.” (John Green)

From the best-selling author of Everything I Never Told You, a riveting novel that traces the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and the enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives.

In Shaker Heights, a placid, progressive suburb of Cleveland, everything is planned - from the layout of the winding roads to the colors of the houses to the successful lives its residents will go on to lead. And no one embodies this spirit more than Elena Richardson, whose guiding principle is playing by the rules.

Enter Mia Warren - an enigmatic artist and single mother - who arrives in this idyllic bubble with her teenage daughter, Pearl, and rents a house from the Richardsons. Soon Mia and Pearl become more than tenants - all four Richardson children are drawn to the mother-daughter pair. But Mia carries with her a mysterious past and a disregard for the status quo that threatens to upend this carefully ordered community.

When old family friends of the Richardsons attempt to adopt a Chinese American baby, a custody battle erupts that dramatically divides the town - and puts Mia and Elena on opposing sides. Suspicious of Mia and her motives, Elena is determined to uncover the secrets in Mia's past. But her obsession will come at unexpected and devastating costs.

Little Fires Everywhere explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, and the ferocious pull of motherhood - and the danger of believing that following the rules can avert disaster.

    Wunderbare Familiensaga, genau hingesehen

    Geschickte Perspektivwechsel, spannend verwoben

    Tolle Geschichte, tiefe Charactere

Wunderbare Geschichte mit vielen Nuancen und Feingefühl erzählt. Die Charaktere sind interessant und vielschichtig, Klischees schimmern gerade im richtigen Maße hindurch.

Best book I "read" in years.

Certainly the best narrator, Jennifer Lim, I ever heard. Don't miss out on it. By the way, I usually never write any reviews.

    Absolutely impossible to miss

I got so hooked to this slow, subtle, wonderful story that I could not stop listening anymore. Celeste Ng depicts the characters of several families in Shaker Heights to perfection, managing to give the reader a perfect picture without ever falling back on crude description. This is a very moving story, but not in the sense of some soap opera or cheap drama, but in the way the characters unfold, interact, help or hurt each other, and become ridiculous or hateful or loveable, but always stay very human. I can only recommend this book very warmly.

It may have started a little slow but loved the story. and the characters - they were all well presented and for one to relate to all of their feelings and beings. leaves you understanding all of them and their points of view.

    A real surprise

First I thought this was only a story about some teenagers. But this is so much more, a multi layered story about the essence of life. The lives of all characters kept me with them long after having listened to the book a second time right away.

    Geschichte eher mäßig

Toll gelesen, die Geschichte zog sich aus meiner Sicht und die Charaktere waren für mich sehr konstruiert und nicht immer gut nachvollziehbar

    Slow Start, exciting end

Little fires everywhere is very much a story about what it means to be a mother or what makes a person a mother. The first half was rather tiring - the end nearly made up for it. This book is for everyone who enjoys a good family drama.
