THE STORY

In the darkest corners of the webway lies the city of Commorragh. Home to the sadistic drukhari, millions are butchered upon its arenas’ sands to slake their terrible thirst for blood. The greatest of these butchers is Lelith Hesperax – the Queen of Knives, and the deadliest gladiator in the galaxy.

Lelith abandoned the Dark City to walk alongside the nomadic death cultists of Ynnead, and in her absence from Commorragh, pretenders to her blood-soaked crown have arisen.

When a blade strikes at Lelith from the shadows, she is pulled back to Commorragh, and into the murderous games of the Living Muse himself – Asdrubael Vect. As his schemes coil around her, the Queen of Knives finds herself ensnared once more in Vect’s terrible web, and this time, mere blades may not be enough to cut her free.

Overall an amazing book that I thoroughly enjoyed. The speaker was good, though I had trouble to accustom myself to her style, especially in the beginning. After a while I managed to get into it and enjoy the performance nonetheless.
Absolutely reccommendable!

I didn't think I would ever combine these words but this Dark Elder story is cute.

Not what one would expect.

Terrific book. Frighteningly homosexual. Mike Brooks has done it again. Drukhari now officially have one and a half good books and they're both by the same guy

Perfect book in every way, other than the lengh. I wanted more and hope for more aeldari books.

There‘s not a whole lot happening. Neither the plotting nor the fighting not even the romance subplot is really satisfying or thought through. But it’s a fun story and Lelith and the Drukhari are a fun bunch to hear about.
The reader was fine but was a bit monotone at times for my taste. The way she tried to differentiate voices was a bit cliche I thought.
I do also have a few issues with some name pronunciations I hope that Black Library will issue a guide to their names cause some of these were really all over the place.

Completely undermines Leliths reputation as a heartless killer and the plot feels utterly forced.
Hopefully we get the older Drukhari books as Audio books soon.

Longwinded character assassination

The setup is great: Lelith's position within the hierarchy of Commorragh is becoming unstable and she has to abandon the Ynnari and return to deal with it. Sadly from there the story turns into the female primarch novel: Lelith is very one note, the relationship between her and the other parties goes dreadfully underexplored and there never seems to be anything realy at stake. The sad part: the Ork story "Da Big Dakka" by the same author depicts Drukhari society as way more nuanced and interesting.

Overall the entire story feels like the victim of a strict deadline.
