Das ist ein Geschichtsbuch. Mein favoriter Zeitraum in der englischen Geschichte. Sehr detailliert. Die Sprecherin hat eine sehr angenehme Stimme. Einfach Klasse.

I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook, though I suppose it helps to already know a little bit about the time period. Personally, I didn't care for the narrator's use of accents and would gave preferred plain English, but that's just a matter of preference. Otherwise the narrator was very easy to listen to. Completely recommend this audiobook!

Excellent storytelling by Alison Weir, factual and informative. Good narrator, although the imitation of foreign accents takes some getting used to.

Times have perhaps moved on since this book first appeared and/or the audiobook was produced. For example, the choice to read quotes from French and Milanese persons, and English gentry / common folk, with stereotypical accents is strange and rather off-putting. Then other sources are quoted without an accent.

I appreciate that this book was probably written for a general readership and as such it goes for clear narrative over nuance. In doing so it leans heavily into the Yorkist viewpoint. This is a shame as the complexity of the politics and personalities of this period are IMO its defining features and what make it a fascinating study. York was no paragon of virtue and neither was Margaret of Anjou. Yet in this account, in a sweeping manner, York is always described as acting "justifiably". Margaret is shown - from the very start - as a kind of vindictive teenage dominatrix.

All that said, what I was hoping for from the early chapters was achieved. I appreciated the information about the establishment of the Lancastrian dynasty and the downfall of Richard II. This is vital background to what came to pass in the 15th century.

i do love the author, but the woman reading the audio book takes a ridiculous fake italian accent while reading the letters of the italian ambassador. it is unbearable and quite sad.
