A friend rated the book favourably, so after reading the synopsis, I thought I'd give it a go. I don't think I realized that it's the 5th volume in a series, or I probably wouldn't have bought it, cause I don't know the previous volumes (yet). I'm glad I bought it. I only stopped listening to sleep, I was totally engrossed in the narration. The narrator did a fantastic job, and the story has a lot of suspense and moments to bite your nails if you are so inclined (I'm glad I'm not, there wouldn't be any left). There were moments where I was cross with Maggie, and where I thought her actions were incredibly stupid, but somehow they were understandable, too.
The characters all have depth, and it isn't your stereotypical story.
I also enjoyed the setting. I've been to Manchester, and my experiences with this lovely town and its people are very positive, but I know that Mancunians complain about lots of things about their town, especially the weather. :D Still, don't let this novel deter you from going there. ;)

I'll certainly check out more books in this series.

I think it is an interesting plot, quite atmospheric and Lisa Coleman is an excellent reader. The characters are described vividly too but I found it a bit too cliche.The bad guys are very, very evil, the good guys are so nice, polite, caring and considerate. Good guy turns out to be one of the bad guys after all. Fair maiden is captured, enduring her predicament until rescued by hero cop with a romantic twist at the end.
