Über diesen Titel

The last time Conrad was unemployed, he got a visit from the Allfather. Look where that got him....

And now the Gnomes of Lakeland want him to be the new Commissioner.

A simple job: Sort out the Assessors and put the Grand Union on a stable footing. They’re even willing to pay for an assistant to help him with the difficult magick stuff. What could possibly go wrong?

When you have two powerful factions who both think that they're above the law, you have a recipe for trouble when they fall out. Conrad has barely unpacked his suitcase before the Fae Queen of Derwent is in a standoff with the Greenings, and neither side look like they want to back down.

The peaceful fells and dales of Lakeland are about to see an all-out war unless Conrad, Cordelia, and his under-strength team can keep them apart. When the walls close in, Conrad will need to make new friends and watch his back.

It all starts with a race down Great Langdale and it ends with an appointment at Lakeland’s oldest boundary marker, the Four Roads Cross.

Grab yourself a copy of the new adventure in the King’s Watch and immerse yourself once again in the world of Conrad and Company.

Great story, many storylines concluded but also some questions raised. Looking forward to the next book!

Gripping and fascinating

The series started out quite promising during the first few volumes. Interesting storyline and take on magic. Once the novelty wore off, it was still a notch above average. However, introducing several more points of view and adding another narrator for those in book 8 did absolutely nothing to improve the audio book experience. In fact, it is rather the opposite...especially when said narrator tries to impersonate Conrad and makes him sound like a school kid giving a rendition of Santa Claus' "Ho ho ho" voice, Also, the quality of the story went steeply downhill from there. Book 9 (Five Leaf Clover) was really uninteresting / not captivating at all and Ciaran Saward's performance of the visit to the fair Queen was so corny it really made me cringe several times. I have now stopped listening for good in the middle of this 10th book, as the plot has degraded further into nothing but boring parlour politics and questions of who-shagged-whom. This really goes to show authors should not overextend themselves by sticking to a fixed number of volumes from the get-go. If Mr. Hayden had concluded the series by Episode 7 or 8, he might have created something great. Unfortunately, he didn't and now leaves the impression of a former star who hasn't realized their career has been over for quite some time.
